The Sullivan School of Business, Engineering and Technology is seeking to fill an adjunct position for the Fall 2025 term.
Course: BUS691 – Special Topics – Professional Coaching and Leadership Development
Time/Days: This Hybrid course meets Thursdays, 6:00pm-9:50pm 8/31/2025 – 10/25/2025
Position Overview:
We are seeking a dynamic, experienced, and International Coaching Federation (ICF)-Certified Coach to teach and mentor students in the art and science of coaching. This role will involve providing students with the foundational skills necessary to coach others, develop coachability, and gain hands-on experience in a classroom setting with active, real-world learning experiences. The ideal candidate will be a practicing coach with at least 200 hours of coaching experience, who owns their own coaching business or has an active coaching role within a firm and holds appropriate professional insurance. This position offers an exciting opportunity to share expertise with the next generation of coaches while also creating a truly engaging, experiential learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Instruction: Deliver engaging and practical lessons on coaching fundamentals, including active listening, powerful questioning, goal setting, and feedback techniques.
- Coaching Practice: Facilitate active learning experiences, where students will engage in peer-to-peer coaching sessions, receive live feedback, and refine their coaching skills in real-time.
- Coachability: Guide students in developing coachable mindsets, fostering the ability to receive feedback, and improving their own coaching techniques.
- Real-World Learning: Share case studies and real-life coaching scenarios from your own practice, ensuring that students can apply concepts in practical situations.
- Mentorship: Provide one-on-one guidance to students, helping them develop a personalized coaching style and integrate coaching methods into their professional and personal lives.
- Assessment: Evaluate students' coaching abilities through observations, peer feedback, and assessments. Provide constructive feedback to help students improve and refine their skills.
- Ethics & Professionalism: Emphasize the ethical standards and guidelines set by the International Coaching Federation (ICF), ensuring that students are well-versed in the professional standards of coaching practice.
- Business of Coaching: Share insights on running a coaching business, including client acquisition, marketing, professional ethics, and how to stay insured as a practicing coach.
- Coach Training: Encourage students to undertake coaching certification programs or internships to further develop their expertise.
Qualifications:
- Certification: Must be an active International Coaching Federation (ICF)-certified coach, with training from an ICF-accredited organization.
- Coaching Experience: At least 200 hours of documented coaching experience with individuals or groups, preferably in diverse settings (e.g., executive coaching, life coaching, career coaching, etc.).
- Active Coaching Practice: Must be a current practicing coach who owns their own coaching business and holds the appropriate professional insurance to practice.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Business, Human Resources, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience:
- Proven experience teaching or facilitating training in coaching or leadership development settings.
- Ability to design and deliver course materials that include active learning, real-world coaching scenarios, and experiential activities.
- Strong background in coaching methodologies, including ICF Core Competencies, and tools for both individual and group coaching.
- Skills:
- Deep knowledge of coaching theory, practice, and ethics.
- Ability to mentor and guide students toward their own coaching development.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with experience running a coaching business and a clear understanding of the business aspects of coaching.
Preferred Teaching and Training Qualifications:
- Experience with online teaching platforms (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas, etc.).
- Ability to integrate mindfulness, emotional intelligence, or other personal development practices into the curriculum.
- Specialized certifications in niche coaching areas (e.g., executive coaching, health coaching, career coaching, etc.).
- Previous experience mentoring or coaching groups of students, clients, or employees.
Location:
This position is for in-person and online/hybrid instruction.
