Job Summary
The incumbent will engage in high-level teaching, research, and service within the field of political science. Responsibilities include developing and delivering undergraduate and graduate courses, mentoring students, conducting original research, publishing scholarly work, and contributing to departmental governance. Areas of specialization may include American politics, comparative politics, international relations, political theory, or public policy.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Comprehensive Knowledge of political theory, comparative politics, international relations, American government, and public policy
- Strong Instructional and classroom management skills
- Awareness of domestic and global political developments and their implications
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to accommodate learning styles
- Ability to design and deliver engaging lectures, lead discussions, and facilitate student learning
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for both academic and public audiences
- Skill in creating a respectful, inclusive, and productive learning environment
- Competence in using learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard), presentation tools, and virtual teaching platforms
- Ability to create syllabi, assignments, and assessments aligned with learning outcomes
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to assess student learning and provide constructive feedback
Essential Job Functions
- Prepare and deliver engaging and academically rigorous lectures in political science
- Develop course materials, including syllabi, assignments, examination, and supplementary resources
- Evaluate and grade students’ classwork, assignments, and papers
- Maintain accurate record of students’ attendance, grades and progress
- Provide timely and meaningful feedback to students
- Hold regular office hours (in-person or virtual) to support students outside of the classroom
- Participate in professional development opportunities to maintain currency in the field
Qualifications
- Candidate must have an earned PhD in Political Science or a related field from an accredited institution
- At least two years of teaching experience at the college or university level
- Experience with in-class instruction, online and/or hybrid course delivery
