Scope of research work
- conducting scientific and research activities in the field of microbiology, with particular emphasis on research into bacterial and fungal endophytes.
- assessing the potential of endophytes as agents supporting crop production and biological plant protection;
- assessing microbial diversity and biological activity in soils in relation to agricultural practices and environmental protection, particularly the soil environment;
- assessment of various microbiological and biochemical parameters as indicators of soil fertility and health;
- assessment of the metabolic profile of microorganisms;
- assessment of the genetic diversity and identification of soil microorganisms, including the use of modern research methods, encompassing microbiological, molecular and genomic techniques, as well as biochemical and microscopic analyses.

Specific Requirements
Essential requirements:
- a PhD in agricultural sciences and/or related fields
- professional experience – at least 5 years’ experience working in a microbiological/genetic laboratory.
- experience in leading a research team and managing research projects
- a commitment to scientific work, demonstrated by publications and participation in professional activities (including training and attendance at conferences)
- ability to operate scientific and research equipment in the fields of microbiology and molecular biology
- familiarity with the Biolog system and the ability to analyse the data obtained,
- knowledge of general microbiology, particularly concerning bacterial cell biology.
- documented knowledge of English,
- fluent command of Polish, both spoken and written.

Benefits
Remuneration of an employee holding the post of assistant professor:
- The basic salary ranges from 125% to 250% of the applicable minimum wage.
- Where an employee participates in research programmes or projects, they receive additional remuneration as provided for in the IUNG-PIB Collective Agreement.

Selection process
Form, deadline and place for submitting documents:
The required documents must be sent by post, marked ‘competition for the post of adjunct at the Department of Microbiology’ to the Institute’s address (Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation– State Research Institute, 24-100 Puławy, street Czartoryskich 8) or submitted in person at the Institute’s Human Resources Department from Monday to Friday between 7:00 to 15:00 or by email to: kadry@iung.pulawy.pl by 15 September 2026.
The results will be announced no later than two weeks after the conclusion of the selection process.
The Institute may employ a staff member from the 1st day of the month following the announcement of the competition results. Please note that the Institute has implemented and maintains the standards of the European Charter for Researchers and the principles of the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers, as well as the OTMR policy, in accordance with the guidelines and recommendations of the European Commission.
