EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Adjunct, part-timePRIMARY DUTY: The Department of Fine and Performing Arts at Northwest Missouri State University is seeking candidates to create a pool of applicants who can serve as Adjunct Faculty in Theatre: Design and Technical, with emphasis in scenery and lighting.The Theatre Program at Northwest provides a rigorous, student-centered education that encourages risk-taking, exploration, and collaboration. Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching theatre technical and design within a robust and collaborative theatre program at a regional comprehensive state university. Successful candidates will also demonstrate the ability to work with diverse populations, work collegially, and develop and maintain effective professional relationships within a multi-disciplinary department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Successful candidates may teach one or more courses as assigned that incorporate rigorous critical thinking, challenging problem solving, and sound and creative artistic principles to prepare students for success as professional theatre artists.1. Teach campus-based courses which may include one or more of the following: Lighting Design, Scenic Design, Technical Skills-Electrics, Technical Skills-Scenery, Theatre Drafting (beginning and advanced)2. Perform other program-related duties as assigned [may include opportunities to design in area(s) of scenery and/or lighting in mainstage production program.3. Collaborate with campus faculty.

REQUIREMENTS:Education: Master’s degreeExperience: Experience in, depth of understanding of, and ability to teach technical theatre and theatre design courses to both beginning and advanced undergraduate students; Experience in, depth of understanding of, and ability to teach Vectorworks or Auto-CAD to both beginning and advanced undergraduate students.Skills: Demonstrated ability in scenic and lighting design.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Highly collaborative academic environment in a Fine and Performing Arts Department at a regional, comprehensive university. Faculty use Canvas, an online learning management system, and are provided a laptop computer. Faculty maintain regular office hours to support students.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Successful candidate will demonstrate the potential to supervise student designersEQUIPMENT/MATERIALS USED: Laptop computer, PC-based hardware and software, online information management systems as needed, university instruments.TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to lift and carry 20 poundsCOMMUNITY: Northwest Missouri State University is located in Maryville, Missouri, a community of 12,000 with a diverse economy and a strong industrial base.
