Department Information
The Department of Theatre & Performance Studies is bursting with unique opportunities that nurture future artists, scholars, and creative entrepreneurs both on and off the stage. Our Bachelor of Arts degree in theatre and performance studies is one of a kind. We give majors a wide range of experiences while focusing on one of four comprehensive concentrations: acting, design and technology, musical theater, and performance studies. We teach students how to make the art they dream of and why the history and culture surrounding that art is important. This reflects our wholehearted commitment to the scholar-artist framework, connecting and integrating practice and theory.
We complement our stunning mainstage musicals, classic plays, and cutting-edge new work with a wide array of performance forms from storytelling and improv comedy to puppetry and poetry. With a variety of offerings, all eager theatre makers can find a place to flourish in our program. Our reputation for excellence has led to numerous relationships with professional theaters and community partners. These relationships give our students the chance to integrate what they learn on campus to work in the world outside the classroom. From the stories we tell on our stages to the stories of our students' successes, great stories are truly told here.
