Administrative Assistant
Hampton University is seeking an administrative assistant who will assist the Department of Education in the performance of various administrative and clerical support tasks.
Examples of Duties
- Maintains the Chair’s calendar of meetings, presentations, and deadlines.
- Performs all clerical tasks, including typing, copying, retrieving, sorting and sending mail.
- Assists in the preparation of meetings and events including school and committee meetings organized by the Department of Education.
- Take the meeting minutes for the Department of Education.
- Manages front desk operations (including answering the telephone and greeting visitors at the reception area).
- Sets appointments with professors for students who need advisement or issues resolved.
- Provides information and referrals to faculty.
- Prepares presentation materials including power point presentations and handouts.
- Collects and disseminates department-related information.
- Interfaces with repair personnel, vendors, delivery personnel, and equipment-service providers.
- Other duties as assigned by the Department Chair.
Typical Qualifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong communication skills.
- The ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Demonstrated initiative and sense of ownership for projects.
- Able to work at Hampton University in person.
- Compose emails and brief memos using appropriate grammar.
