Advanced Farm Attendant

About This Opportunity

We are seeking two proactive and motivated farm attendants to assist with the day-to-day operations. Reporting to the Senior Trials Coordinator, the Advanced Farm Attendant assists in the day to day running of the Cropping and Field Research Unit, (CFRU) on the Gatton campus, including the set up and maintenance of equipment involved in fodder production, chemical handling, irrigation activities and related record keeping.

What you’ll do:

  • Operate and maintain farm equipment: Set up, operate, and perform routine maintenance on agricultural machinery used in horticulture, field crops, and fodder production.
  • Support farm operations and compliance: Assist with the preparation and application of agricultural chemicals, maintain irrigation and operational records, and document daily activities to support end-of-month invoicing.
  • Contribute to teaching and farm support activities: Work alongside teaching staff and students to demonstrate farming techniques and practical skills, and undertake additional duties as required by the Farm Manager.

About You

  • Certificate in a relevant discipline (Agriculture, Agronomy or engineering), or a year 12 level of education with relevant work experience, or equivalent relevant experience or combination of relevant experience and education/training
  • Certificate of competency in the operation of a front end loader, fork lift, quad bike, side by side and tractor, or willingness to undertake training
  • A, B and C class motor vehicle licences
  • Knowledge of horticulture, fodder or field crop production
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to operate and undertake basic maintenance of equipment associated with cropping and fodder production
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently when required and effectively within a small team
  • A commitment to quality service, processes, production and attention to detail
  • Possession of or the ability to obtain a Blue Card and Chemcert accreditation in Agriculture and Veterinary Chemicals, a commercial operators license issued under the ACDC Act would be highly regarded

Appointment to this role is subject to the successful completion of relevant pre-employment checks, which may include verification of the right to work in Australia and mandatory immunisations.
