About This Opportunity
Join our world-class research team as a Senior Research Assistant at the Frazer Institute to support the experimental dermatology research laboratory. We are specifically looking for a passionate researcher who loves working in a laboratory environment and excels in cell, molecular biology and animal work.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Conduct laboratory experiments as assigned by supervisors, including but not limited to cell culture, cell-based assays, animal work, histology, PCR, and possibly Western blotting, and flow cytometry, ensuring high standards of accuracy, reproducibility, and documentation.
- Troubleshoot, operate, and maintain scientific instruments and equipment to support ongoing research activities.
- Prepare and process clinical samples in multiOmics pipelines.
- Assist in the design, planning, and execution of research studies, and contribute to the maintenance of laboratory inventory, consumables, and records.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols, including the proper handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals, biological materials, and samples.
- Support data collection, analysis, and management, and assist in the preparation of literature reviews, reports, presentations, and scientific publications.
- Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary research team and perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor/Manager.
About You
- Completion of a degree level qualification in molecular biology, dermatology science or cancer, or related fields with relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training.
- A proactive Research Assistant (RA) – someone who loves the lab, excels in cell, molecular biology, and animal work, and takes pride in mastering techniques like Histology, Cloning, CRISPR-Cas9, etc.
- Experience using laboratory record-keeping and data storage.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and work independently on routine procedures.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Well-organised, methodical and self-motivated.
Appointment to this role is subject to the successful completion of relevant pre-employment checks including verification of the right to work in Australia (employer-sponsored work rights are not available for these appointments) and mandatory immunisations.
