Advanced Practice Professional (NP) Medical Specialties - Psychiatry - University of Michigan Addiction Treatment Services (UMATS)
This is an Advanced Practice Professional (APP) job opening. Both qualified NP and PA applicants will be considered. A total of one (1), Advanced Practice Professionals (either NP or PA) will be hired to fill this job opening. The University of Michigan Addiction Treatment Services (UMATS) mission approaches addiction treatment like any other health condition, with specific emphasis on understanding how substance use relates to emotions. UMATS clinicians focus on making a clear diagnosis and working with their patients to identify strengths, talents and values that will support individuals throughout treatment.
The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team composed of psychiatrist, psychologist, social workers, and case managers. Promotes a safe and healthy environment through compliance with regulatory standards and other quality measures. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of evidence-based interventions and trends.
We are seeking an Advance Practitioner (APP) to join our team who is compassionate, patient-centered and dedicated to providing high quality care to the patients we serve.
- Perform comprehensive addiction psychiatric/medicine evaluation and mental status examination and physical exam
- Formulates appropriate addiction/substance use disorder and medical diagnosis differentials based on comprehensive histories and detailed physical examinations
- Diagnose appropriate syndromes based on DSM-V and ICD-10 criteria
- Order and interpret diagnostic and laboratory tests
- Prescribe pharmacologic agents with experience in substance use withdrawal management and medications for opioid use disorder
- ADHD evaluation in setting of substance use disorder
- Collaborate with faculty and multidisciplinary teams (psychologists, social workers, educators, and researchers) to develop treatment plans
- Provide specialized education regarding disease-based and substance use disorder education/instructions for patients and their family.
- Document all relevant data according to clinical and regulatory standards
- Manage inbox messages and cross cover for other APPs on service
Diagnosis and Development of Treatment Plan: Establishes priorities and a mutually acceptable plan of care to maximize the health potential of the individual patient. This includes delegated medical functions as designated in clinical privileges. Organizational Relationships and Practice Environment: Advance Practice Professionals (APPs) will receive medical supervision from the UMATS Medical Director or their designee. Advance Practice Professionals (APPs) will receive administrative supervision from the APP Manager.
Required Qualifications (NP): Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan. Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB) as a Family Nurse Practitioner or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner or dual certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. AHA BLS certification. Current DEA registration required. Two (2) years' experience working as a nurse practitioner. Two (2) year experience working as a nurse practitioner in an Addiction Psychiatric or Addiction Medicine-Mental Health setting.
Required Qualifications (PA): Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan. Graduate of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP. Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA). State of Michigan Controlled Substance License. AHA BLS certification. Current DEA registration required. Two (2) years' experience working as physician assistant. Two (2) years' experience working as a physician assistant in an Addiction Psychiatric or Addiction Medicine-Mental Health setting.
Desired Qualifications: Two years of experience as an RN/NP/PA managing adult acute and/or chronic conditions found in acute care settings like intensive care unit, or emergency departments. Training in evidence-based psychotherapy (e.g. motivational interviewing). APP experience prescribing medications used for substance use disorders including buprenorphine/methadone. Familiarity with psychotropic medication therapy. Addiction medicine certification or fellowship. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills measured by references and interview. Demonstrated success working within a multidisciplinary team model measured by references and interview. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision measured by references and interviews.
Full time- 40 hours per week. Shift: Standard schedule is Monday – Friday from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, possible evenings. The schedule is subject to change based on the clinical operational demands where the employee practices. This position is blended with in person clinic visits and virtual visits.
