Position Title: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)
Department: Student Health Center (SHC)
9-month position (Academic Year)
Description and Summary
The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) will be responsible for providing primary care services to Fairfield University undergraduate students. The APRN will provide operational support to the SHC including Risk Management and Quality Assurance Committees. The APRN will provide individual health education and provides health education outreach to the Fairfield University student body as needed.

Required Qualifications:
- Education
- Master of Science in Nursing Degree or DNP
- Licensure/Accreditation
- CT Registered Nurse License
- CT Advanced Practice Registered Nurse License
- ANCC Accreditation (or equivalent) as an Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner
- CPR Certification
- Experience
- 5 + years APRN nursing experience (preferably primary care)
- Possesses understanding and appreciation of the Jesuit Mission of the University and associated healthcare implications.
- Demonstrates verbal, written, and leadership skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide primary care to Fairfield University students in the Student Health Center (SHC) as authorized by the CT Nurse Practice Act and in a manner consistent with Fairfield University Mission and Identity. This involves: Conducting physical assessments; ordering diagnostic testing, as appropriate, which may include laboratory testing or certain diagnostic imaging tests; implementing treatment plans which may include ordering and dispensing prescription medication, specialty referrals and patient education.
- Provide health education outreach in various forms (e.g. dorm talks, health literature development, mentoring student groups with a health education focus).
- Assist the SHC Director and the CT Department of Health in the identification and management of infectious disease outbreaks in the University community.
- Document all clinical encounters in the student’s medical record in accordance with the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974.
- Function as a patient advocate as needed (facilitating referrals to specialists, other departments, campus advocates, etc.).
- Assist the SHC Director with the development and maintenance of SHC Clinical Policies and Procedures.
- Assist the SHC Director with the implementation and maintenance of a comprehensive Quality Assurance program.
- Support the SHC RN staff and the SHC Operations Assistants as needed.
- Participate in the professional growth and development of the department. This involves: Monitoring developments in health care through membership in professional associations, attendance at workshops and seminars, and in the reading of professional literature. Promoting an image of efficiency and courtesy throughout the University community. Attending departmental staff meetings as requested. Recommending improvements in policies and procedures that may lead to more effective and comprehensive health care for the students. Supporting the SHC/University mission.
- Perform other health care and administrative functions or duties as appropriate.
- Promote safe and secure working conditions. This involves: Promoting the proper utilization of equipment and materials. Notifying the SHC Director immediately of any unsafe working conditions. Adhering to Infection Control Policies and Procedures.
- Maintaining required clinical competencies.
- Participates in SHC committee work as assigned by the SHC Director; Examples include: The SHC Risk Management Committee which is charged with implementing and maintaining a program of risk management designed to protect the life and welfare of the SHC’s patients and employees. The SHC Quality Improvement Committee which is charged with setting the quality improvement priorities and standards, as well as the oversight, coordination and development of quality improvement activities.
Functions Requiring Special Privileging:
- Performing vaginal wet mounts
