Detailed Position Information
The Department of Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics at The University of Alabama invites applications for a non-tenured, renewable contract faculty position across all domains relevant to aerospace engineering and engineering mechanics. Primary duties of the successful candidate will include teaching core undergraduate lecture classes and suitable graduate-level courses, integrating new curriculum modules in the Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering (BSAE) program, and assisting in departmental service roles such as advising design teams and student groups, and supporting ABET continuing-improvement processes and documentation. A small percentage of time can be allocated to scholarship and research activities related to supervising student culminating experiences, participating in thesis and dissertation committees, and attending national conferences in the relevant education and engineering fields.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have a PhD in aerospace engineering, engineering mechanics, or a closely related field from an accredited institution by the date of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications
UA’s Department of Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics curriculum consists of a wide variety of courses, including introductory freshman engineering courses, sophomore-level engineering mechanics courses, core/traditional junior- and senior-level aerospace engineering courses, and several senior/grad-level electives in aerospace engineering, engineering mechanics, and applied mathematics. The successful candidate will have demonstrated, and is expected to continue to demonstrate, a high level of performance in the classroom or laboratory in many of these courses. Additionally, the candidate should show experience in or evidence of: actively engaging with students and student activities, demonstrating experiences and leadership roles in curriculum development and/or continual improvement processes, and collegially participating with faculty and professional staff.
