Description

Examples Of Functions and Tasks
Instruction - ESSENTIAL: Teaches college courses in, but not limited to, animal husbandry, equine studies, agribusiness, and related general agriculture curriculum. Prepares and delivers classroom lectures. Prepares, organizes, supervises, and delivers learning labs that support classroom curriculum. Compiles special materials and bibliographies for outside reading and research assignments. Instructs students using various methods such as lecture, demonstration, audio-visual aids, and practical experience. Stimulates classroom discussions. Prepares, administers, and grades examinations. Provides subject-area counseling and supplemental discussions with students to enhance and stimulate understanding and learning.
- Animal Husbandry. Curriculum for courses includes but is not limited to stable management, genetics and animal breeding, animal care and nutrition, and live animal evaluation.
- Equine Studies. Curriculum for courses includes, but is not limited to horse husbandry and equine care, facility management, horsemanship, horse training, and riding classes.
- Agribusiness. Curriculum for courses includes, but is not limited to topics such as agricultural economics, farm management, agricultural finance, marketing of agricultural products, and agricultural ethics.
- General Agriculture. Curriculum for courses that may be developed in the future to meet community needs.
Agriculture Program Administration - ESSENTIAL: Plans, organizes, and implements marketing and outreach activities to the community, agricultural business and interest organizations. Participates in local agriculture-related events. Develops and maintains relationships with agribusiness organizations and food/farm organizations to secure internships and lab settings for students. Maintains relationships with governmental organizations to learn about the trends in regulations. Coordinates agriculture department activities with Community Education. Participates in the selection and evaluation of part- time instructors, reviews and recommends course content and schedules.
Student Activities - ESSENTIAL: Recruits potential students to the agriculture program. Develops internships in agriculture-related industries. Coordinates and participates in local events. May advise and coach activities and interscholastic events.
Budget and Administration - ESSENTIAL: Participates in the development of the budget for the Agriculture program. Administers approved budgets. Supervises student employees and others who are assigned to the department.

Master's in agriculture, agriculture science, education with a specialization in agriculture or other agricultural area (including: agricultural business, agricultural engineering, agricultural mechanics, agronomy, animal science, enology, environmental (ornamental) horticulture, equine science, forestry, natural resources, plant science, pomology, soil science, viticulture or other agriculture science) OR the equivalent

Supplemental Information
COMPENSATION Placement on the District's Faculty Salary Schedule is dependent upon years of experience and level of education. Entry-level is from $77.44 per hour (Lecture Rate)/$58.08 per hour (Lab/Counselor Rate) to $98.98 per hour (Lecture Rate)/$74.24 per hour (Lab/Counselor Rate) at the time of employment. The current highest salary attainable after employment is $127.21 per hour (Lecture Rate)/$95.41 per hour (Lab/Counselor Rate). Employees also will be members of the State Teachers Retirement System (STRS). Sick leave, and other leaves are available according to the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
