Job Summary:
The Marshfield Agricultural Research Station is located near the state’s geographic center, in an area of Wisconsin with the highest concentration of dairy farms. The station, established in 1912, is home to one of the nation’s premier dairy heifer research facilities and operates 955 acres of land providing support for faculty, researchers, and students in the UW College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, and the USDA Institute for Environmentally Integrated Dairy Management.
This is a fixed term finite position
The responsibilities of the Animal Care Technician II include, but are not limited to, animal health observations, routine and clinical animal care treatments, animal handling, milking, feeding, cleaning, and research data collection. This person will need to work around cattle and maneuver them to obtain weights and restraint in a head lock, assist with animal healthcare, movement on pasture, and collect composite milk samples in an AAALAC accredited dairy heifer and lactating cow research operation. The position will uphold the cleanliness of the milking facility and cows to grade A standards
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Inspects and reports equipment problems to ensure optimal and safe operation
- Inventories, cleans, and maintains organization of animal holding spaces and supplies
- Maintains organization of and updates records related to research procedures
- Prepares food and formulas and feeds animals according to established schedules and specifications
- Observes animal behavior, performs basic animal care, and reports concerns to the appropriate entities to contribute to the health and well-being of animals and promote research
- Collects samples from animals and administers medications, injections, and treatments according to established protocols and procedures to be used for diagnostic tests and research

Compensation:
The anticipated salary range for this position is $18.50 - $21.00. However, final salary will depend on experience and qualifications. Required Qualifications:
- Knowledge and experience with dairy cow husbandry practices
- Knowledge and experience with dairy heifer husbandry practices
- Basic cattle husbandry equipment operational skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience documenting animal care records
- Experience providing oversight and training for students, temporary/seasonal staff or related staff.
Education:
H.S. Diploma Preferred
