Key responsibilities will include:

• Deliver high-quality animal care, husbandry and breeding support across laboratory, rodent facilities, ensuring animal welfare and research outcomes are maintained.
• Perform routine and complex technical procedures in support of approved research activities, in line with ethical, legislative and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain bio-secure, compliant facilities through accurate record-keeping, monitoring of life support systems, and adherence to OH&S, AEC, OGTR and DAFF standards.
• Provide flexible operational support across facilities, including training and assisting staff, researchers and students, and responding promptly to alarms and adverse incidents.

About You

• Relevant qualifications and/or extensive hands-on experience in animal technology, or a related field, with the ability to work across different species and facilities.
• Demonstrated experience in animal handling, husbandry and breeding practices within a regulated research or animal care environment.
• Confidence in performing routine and complex technical procedures, including sample collection, treatments and euthanasia, in accordance with approved protocols.
• A strong understanding of animal ethics, biosecurity and regulatory frameworks, or the ability to rapidly apply these requirements in practice.
• A flexible and adaptable approach, with the capacity to operate effectively as a floating team member in response to changing operational priorities.
• Clear and professional communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with researchers, students and colleagues to support high-quality research outcomes.

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including right to work in Australia, criminal check, mandatory immunisations and medical clearance.

Medical Clearance

Medical Clearance Working with laboratory animals is an inherent requirement of the position. The appointment is therefore subject to, and conditional upon, satisfactory medical clearance(s), including disclosure of relevant medical history, to undertake such work without unreasonable risk to your health and safety. In addition, the Employee is required to fully comply with necessary ongoing health monitoring procedures and control measures associated with the position.

Full-time, permanent position. Base salary will be in the range $83,776 - $93,121 + 17% Superannuation (HEW Level 5). Based at our Dutton Park location– Please note, this role operates as a floating resource, supporting different animal facilities and teams across the University campuses/locations as required.
