Summary of Position

The mission of the Visual Arts Department is to inspire creative and thoughtful investigation of studio skills, cultivate original ideas, develop critical thinking, and encourage a life-long appreciation of the arts. We do this through high quality 2- and 3-dimensional studio classes and research-based art history and art appreciation classes. Our department is supportive of the diverse educational and professional needs of students with a wide range of goals.

The Art History Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in Art Appreciation and Art History through both face-to-face and online formats. This role supports student engagement by integrating technology (including Desire2Learn), using inclusive teaching methods, and adapting to a range of learning styles in a diverse community college environment.

Part-time Instructors provide instructional duties for the College in their respective areas of expertise. They report to the department chair within the discipline and do not have any supervisory responsibilities. Responsibilities include instruction, student assessment, and other related instructional duties. Instructional delivery may include face-to-face, hybrid, and online. Classes may be held on days, evenings, and weekends.

The compensation for this position is $1,149 to $1,810.50 per credit hour, commensurate with education and experience. This is a part-time, FLSA exempt position and may work up to 28 hours per week, depending on budget and need.

This position has been exempted from the State Classified System.

The instructor must be patient and respectful, while also providing their expectations for what is considered acceptable work. The instructor must display dedication to the class as well as the goals of the program. This posting will be used to fill multiple part-time Instructor vacancies. Finalists must be willing to make Colorado their primary workplace, including online courses.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to work from campus (primarily at our Lakewood campus with occasional hours at the Arvada campus).
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability and desire to teach students online and face-to-face.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to teach students using traditional and alternative methods of instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate technology into the classroom.

Required Qualifications

  • A master's degree from an accredited institution in Art History or a closely related field and 18 graduate hours in Art History.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience using non-traditional learning environments.
  • 30 semester credit hours of teaching experience in higher education.
  • Experience teaching online classes.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse communities and supporting individuals from diverse populations, which may include but are not limited to racial, ethnic, and gender backgrounds that are underrepresented.

Physical & Cognitive Demands

The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position.

  • Occasionally moves, positions, and transports files and office materials weighing up to 10 lbs.
  • This is largely a sedentary role. This position operates in an office environment and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
  • The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.
