Job Description
The Department of Surgery at Radboudumc is seeking a motivated physician-PhD candidate for the research group in gastrointestinal surgery. The PhD focuses on the treatment of patients with benign gallbladder pathology and consists of two parts.
Randomized Trial: The first part involves coordinating a multicenter randomized trial on the influence of a lifestyle intervention for patients with abdominal pain and gallstones. This study builds on the previously published SECURE-trial and is conducted in collaboration with multiple surgical centers in the Netherlands. The trial has already been approved by the METC, so you will join an ongoing project. You will work closely with a co-PhD candidate, and your organizational skills will be essential.
Implementation Research: The second part focuses on the implementation of a new guideline for the treatment of symptomatic gallstone disease. This involves qualitative research, requiring multidisciplinary collaboration and strong communication skills.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Developing clinical research questions
- Conducting interviews
- Collecting, managing, and processing clinical data
- Coordinating a multicenter RCT
- Performing statistical analyses
- Writing scientific publications and reports
- Presenting research results at (inter)national conferences
- Following training programs and courses for PhD candidates at Radboud University
Requirements
You have completed the study of Medicine and have demonstrable interest in surgery and lifestyle. You are enthusiastic, independent, flexible, ambitious, and talented in organization. You have strong, preferably demonstrable, interest in scientific research. Statistical knowledge and enthusiasm for data analysis are important. Experience with writing an English-language publication is preferred.
Employment Conditions
Fixed-term contract: 3 years. Gross monthly salary between €3,598 and €5,669 (scale 10) for a full-time position (36 hours per week), plus 8% holiday allowance, 8.3% end-of-year bonus, and irregularity allowance if applicable. 176 vacation hours per year based on a 36-hour workweek.
