Job Summary: The Department of Neurology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health is seeking a tenure track neuro-oncologist interested in pursuing an academic career and joining our expanding neuro-oncology program at UW Hospital and Clinics and affiliated locations. This position would be active in multi-disciplinary teams including neurology, medical oncology, neurosurgery, surgical oncology, radiation oncology, neuropsychology, neuropathology, and palliative medicine.

This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location. Applicants for this position will be considered for the following titles: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor. The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist. This vacancy is being announced simultaneously with JR#10004651 and JR#10004652; please note that two vacancies exist between these three postings. Having multiple job postings allows the School of Medicine and Public Health to consider candidates on the Tenure, CHS, and CT tracks. This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years. This position will be a dual appointment with UW Madison and UW Medical Foundation.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Clinical responsibilities include outpatient clinics, which may include general neurology continuity clinics, and inpatient attending at UW Health Hospitals and Clinics and/or affiliated locations, while proactively supporting efforts to improve diversity in clinical trial participation.
  • Teach medical students, residents, and fellows.
  • The successful candidate will also participate in professional, public, and university service appropriate to the rank and in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of the School of Medicine and Public Health and UW Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.
  • Teaching efforts would include participation or development of a unique or exceptional teaching program in a clinical or classroom setting, including but not limited to lectures, seminars, one-on-one clinical setting, program or course director, etc. Additional teaching responsibilities would include teaching medical students, residents, and fellows within the context of the candidate's clinical practice.
  • The successful candidate would be involved in neuro-oncology research. Candidate would participate in clinical research conducted in the Department of Neurology and the UW Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center (UWCCC). The candidate would have protected time for developing independent, extramurally funded research programs.
  • Tenture faculty contribute to missions through research, education, and service. Clinician faculty are expected to participate in clinical practice as part of the service mission. Clinical expectations could include activities up to 50% time; however, effort splits can vary depending on the individual’s area of interest.

Department: School of Medicine and Public Health/Department of Neurology. The Department of Neurology has over 65 faculty and 25 advanced practice providers located at 20 S. Park/Meriter Hospital, University of Wisconsin Hospitals and UW Health Clinics. This is a diverse group of generalists and specialists that provides primary, secondary, and tertiary inpatient and outpatient care. Compensation: Negotiable, Annual (12 months)

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have completed a neurology residency program.
  • Neuro-oncology fellowship training or equivalent experience required.
  • Candidates must be board eligible or board certified in one of the following: American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) or American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry (AOBNP).
  • Must have a WI medical license by the start date.
  • Clinical and research interest in primary and metastatic CNS tumors.

Preferred Qualifications: Candidates for Associate Professor or Professor must meet criteria for appointment at rank per UW School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for appointment and promotion on the Tenure track.

Education: MD or DO or equivalent is required by the start date.
