The Tufts University School of Medicine's Department of Rehabilitation Sciences invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, non-tenured faculty appointment at a level commensurate with experience and qualifications for the developing accelerated Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program in Atlanta, GA to serve as the Director of Curriculum (DoC) for the DPT Program. This seven-semester DPT program is a blend of online and on-campus activities, which allows the faculty member to live remotely to the Tufts School of Medicine Atlanta location. However, DPT faculty members must be able to travel and stay in Atlanta, GA, for designated periods each semester. The successful candidate is expected to enhance current teaching and mentoring activities within the DPT program, as well as develop a scholarly agenda and participate in community and professional service appropriate for a university faculty member.

The DoC is responsible for developing, monitoring, and refining the didactic, hybrid component of the curriculum, assessing outcomes, and coordinating with the clinical education component of the curriculum for Tufts DPT Atlanta location. Successful candidates should possess excellent communication skills and strong computer skills to meet the needs of our online didactic instructional format. We desire a team-oriented colleague who is willing and able to collaborate and share instructional methods and student-learning activities. We also are eager to identify candidates who show a genuine appreciation of evidence-based teaching, integration of technology within the classroom and building a student-centered community within the online classroom.

Teaching and Education Responsibilities: Teach courses as agreed upon with the Program Chair of the DPT Program.

Service Responsibilities: Refer to appropriate faculty rank within the School of Medicine Faculty Handbook (included but not limited to Tufts University, School of Medicine, Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, DPT Program, professional, and community service)

Essential Tasks and Functions of the DoC:

  1. Coordinates activities of the Curriculum Committee,
  2. Plans and conducts all Curriculum Committee meetings,
  3. Assists Program Chair in the management of core and adjunct faculty, to include teaching responsibilities, course evaluations, and professional development
  4. Educates all core and adjunct faculty regarding the curriculum plan, to include integration, threads, and their role in curriculum development and review,
  5. Mentors all DPT faculty in the development of syllabi, including the construction of objectives and learning activities,
  6. Reviews all course syllabi and coordinates the institutional review,
  7. Ensures proper integration of courses within the curriculum,
  8. Coordinates class schedules to optimize the learning sequence,
  9. Ensures that curriculum review is an ongoing process, culminating in an Annual Curriculum Review,
  10. Coordinates and assists with agenda formation for the Annual Curriculum Review, to include:
    • Annual review of the curriculum
      1. Review of Program mission, goals and objectives;
      2. Summative results of Student Evaluation of the curriculum;
      3. Summative review of adjunct, supportive, and guest faculty evaluations;
      4. Faculty input regarding curricular issues;
    • Presentation of selected topics and current issues as recommended by faculty or indicated by professional trends;
    • Reporting of all curriculum activities in each faculty meeting;
  11. Provides oversight and leadership to the DPT Curriculum committee to the following components of the program assessment plan and accreditation required self-study report including: Curriculum Plan/Academic Curriculum, Clinical Education Curriculum, and Program Resources.
  12. Ensures all program policies, procedures and practices under the responsibility of the Director of Curriculum provide for compliance with accreditation policies and procedures and reports to the DPT program Director.

The ideal candidate will have an academic doctorate and previous experience with curriculum development, program assessment, and accreditation reporting. Candidates with a DPT and American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) certification or certification credentials appropriate for their teaching responsibilities will also be considered.

This position, like all Tufts DPT faculty positions, is a non-tenure track faculty position with salary and rank commensurate with qualifications. Candidates for the rank of Assistant Professor must demonstrate the potential to become independent investigators and teachers. If candidates seek the rank of Associate Professor or higher, they must have a proven track record of scholarship and graduate student advising and teaching at the Doctoral level. The candidate should be licensed in or eligible for licensure in their state of residence, and candidates will be required to obtain Georgia licensure or PT Compact privilege equivalent.
