General Description
The Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine seeks candidates for an Assistant/Associate Professor position to serve at the WellSpan York Hospital practice location. The applicant should have training and experience in the full spectrum of plastic surgery and feel comfortable with facial fracture repair and flap reconstruction, including microsurgery. Fellowship in craniofacial surgery and/or microsurgery is not mandatory.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical
Time spent treating patients will consist of evaluation and management of patients requiring reconstructive surgery for traumatic, oncologic, and aesthetic needs.
The faculty member will practice in the WellSpan York Hospital ORs and its affiliated ambulatory surgical facilities. The faculty member will be credentialed at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and may, on occasion, need to bring patients requiring highly complex procedures to JHH for surgery, but this would be an uncommon occurrence. Residents from the Johns Hopkins/University of Maryland plastic surgery residency rotate at WellSpan York and will be supervised by the faculty members while on this rotation.
Academic
Resident supervision and instruction are a major component of the position. The faculty member is expected to participate in departmental grand rounds (weekly) and morbidity and mortality conference (monthly), which occur on Thursday mornings at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Research
Research endeavors will be encouraged and supported. Clinical research and outcome studies are abundant. Faculty may collaborate with each other across campuses as well as with the residents and fellows within the Department based on their area(s) of interest.
Qualifications
Applicants must have an M.D. or equivalent degree.
They should be certified (or eligible to be) by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
The applicant should have training and experience in the full spectrum of plastic surgery and feel comfortable with facial fracture repair and flap reconstruction, including microsurgery. Fellowship in craniofacial surgery and/or microsurgery is not mandatory.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong organizational skills.
Strong interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to work well independently to build a clinical practice.
Preferred Qualifications: Leadership skills are highly desirable.
Strong interest in resident and medical student education.
