Position Description
The Department of Mechanical Engineering in the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science at The University of Texas at Dallas invites applications for tenured/tenure-track faculty positions in Mechanical Engineering at the Associate and Assistant Professor levels. Applicants with a research focus in robotics, including novel configurations and mechanisms, mechatronics, machine vision, and controls, with applications in advanced manufacturing, inspection, or repair, are encouraged to apply.
Successful applicants will be required to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the core curriculum and the applicant's specialization area; to advise and mentor graduate students; to develop or to have established an independent, externally funded research program; to participate in all aspects of the department's activities; and to provide service to the UT Dallas and professional communities.
The appointments commence for the fall 2026 semester.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience: A PhD or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline is required prior to employment; those with ABD status will be considered at the application/interviewing stage. Applicants for appointment as Associate Professor should have an established and productive externally funded research program and a track record of excellence in teaching and mentorship. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals with a range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. We are seeking candidates able to produce research and scholarly or creative achievements that enhance the program and the discipline, and able to deliver high quality teaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences.
The Department
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at UT Dallas was founded in 2008 and offers BS, MS, and PhD degrees. The department is home to approximately 1,100 undergraduate students, 200 graduate students, and 45 faculty members. The department is primarily housed in a new building with 200,000 square feet for teaching and research. Central university facilities include materials characterization techniques and cleanroom equipment, and high-performance computing clusters.
