Empire State University is currently seeking two full-time, tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the College for Arts and Sciences. There will be a focus on areas such as Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Machine Learning or other related areas. Responsibilities include developing and teaching online courses in AI at the undergraduate and graduate levels, advising/mentoring students from diverse backgrounds, supporting the growth of our AI-focused programs across the university, contributing to an inclusive online learning environment, and engaging in research and service.

The selected candidates will collaborate across departments to design and implement interdisciplinary curricular pathways and research initiatives that integrate AI into other fields, thereby advancing SUNY Empire's mission to provide innovative and accessible education in high-demand fields.

The successful candidates will advise/mentor students and colleagues in emerging AI and data science methodologies, contributing to a dynamic, forward-thinking academic environment. The ideal candidates would bring experience in building collaborative, interdisciplinary initiatives across areas such as business, digital media, education, ethics, healthcare, or other relevant fields.

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate from a regionally accredited U.S. university or comparable non-U.S. university in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Science, or a closely related field at the time of appointment.
  • College or university level teaching experience.
  • Experience with supporting diverse populations.
  • Ability to work in a distributed faculty environment.
  • Ability to teach and develop courses.
  • An active scholarly agenda.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with teaching and mentoring in online learning environments.
  • Experience with academic program development.
  • Experience with cloud-based AI/ML tools (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud) and proficiency with data analysis platforms commonly used in cybersecurity and/or data science.
  • Ability to teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels, with an adaptable approach to curriculum development that can serve multiple departments.
  • Experience in applied industry or active collaborations with sectors such as business, cybersecurity, data science, digital media, education, ethics, healthcare, or other fields.
  • Potential for or record of obtaining funding for research programs appropriate for the field of study.
  • Bilingual and biliterate in Spanish and English.

Special Information:

Occasional travel will be required to fulfill university-wide obligations, including biannual travel to Saratoga Springs, New York. Office hours will vary in accordance with student needs. Periodic evening and weekend engagement will also be required. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis. VISA sponsorship is not available for this position. Additional Information:

Rank/Salary: Tenure-track, assistant/associate professor, salary range from $87,000 to $95,000, appointment and salary to commensurate with experience and qualifications.
