Description

The Department of Molecular Biosciences at the University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the areas of cancer biology, immunology, and cancer therapeutics. We are particularly interested in candidates who utilize innovative computational approaches, data analytics, or artificial intelligence to inform our understanding of cancer. Research areas of interest include:

  • Cancer immunology
  • Cell signaling, biochemistry, cell or structural biology
  • Metabolism and metabolic changes occurring in cancer cells and tumors
  • DNA damage and repair pathways
  • Genetic and epigenetic regulation of oncogenic processes
  • Molecular underpinnings of metastasis

The Department of Molecular Biosciences is composed of a broad faculty with research interests spanning biochemistry, molecular biology, structural biology and biophysics, cell and developmental biology, plant biology, microbiology, immunology and infectious diseases, biotechnology, and systems and synthetic biology. Collaborative scientists who actively interact with our faculty and take advantage of our state-of-the-art facilities are especially encouraged to apply.

Successful candidates are expected to:

  • Establish and sustain a vibrant research program
  • Serve as dedicated teachers and mentors at both undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Assist in administrative and governance functions of the department, university, and profession via service on committees

Applicants at the assistant professor level must have plans to develop an independent research program and demonstrate a strong commitment to graduate and undergraduate education.

UT Austin offers numerous resources to foster creative interdisciplinary research. Faculty are also expected to develop state-of-the-art courses and real-world training experiences for students. Successful candidates will be eligible for membership in the Interdisciplinary Life Sciences Graduate Programs and have access to outstanding core facilities including:

  • Center for Biomedical Research Support
  • Texas Advanced Computing Center
  • Sauer Center for Structural Biology

The department maintains strong ties with other research units at UT Austin, including:

  • School of Engineering
  • School of Pharmacy
  • Department of Computer Science
  • Oden Institute for Computational Engineering & Sciences
  • Dell Medical School

This position offers excellent start-up funds, salary, and laboratory space in a dynamic and highly interactive research environment in Austin. Applicants are also encouraged to seek support from the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT).

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a relevant discipline
  • Outstanding record of scientific ability as demonstrated by a strong publication record
