Job Description:
Kansas City University (KCU) is adding to our department of Basic Sciences in the College of Osteopathic Medicine at our campus in Joplin, Missouri. The Basic Science team is seeking a new full-time Assistant or Associate Professor of Physiology. We particularly seek an individual with multi-disciplinary expertise in human physiology, with higher emphasis in Cardio, Pulmonary and Renal Physiology. This individual will contribute to the education of students; engage in service opportunities to effectively and positively promote the University, the discipline, and the profession; and actively engage in the advancement of research and scholarly activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Continuously prepares and teaches assigned courses
- Develops course syllabi
- Actively participates in curriculum and assessment development for student success
- Provide student advisement/office hours
- Use innovative teaching methods and the application of learning sciences in medical education
- Participates in admissions activities
- Participates in committee(s) as assigned
- Engages in independent mission relevant research or other scholarly activity and continued professional development
- Participates in Commencement and White Coat ceremonies
- Understands accreditation standards and expectations specific to the department and adheres to policies and procedures to meet or exceed such standards
- Conducts oneself appropriately, professionally, and consistently in accordance with the philosophy and mission of KCU
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. or related doctoral degree/DO/MD
- Undergraduate or graduate training or teaching in human physiology preferred
- Record of publication in peer reviewed journals
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with all levels of personnel and students. Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a team environment. Excellent communication skills (oral/written) essential. Computer literacy required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Background in teaching Physiology at the professional school level
- Minimum of two years post-doctoral experience preferred
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching preferred
- Experience in developing and utilizing new instructional technologies in teaching and assessing anatomical learning
- Experience with curricular, instructional design, and training or experience in educational theory and/or evaluation
- Possess high emotional intelligence and excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills
