Position Information

Associate Professor of Practice

The University of Texas at San Antonio Department of Counseling in the College of Education and Human Development invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor of Practice to serve as the program co-ordinator (i.e., Undergraduate Advisor of Record) for the newly developed Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Sciences degree program and to teach in the BS program and the CACREP accredited Masters of Counseling programs. This is a full-time, nine-month position that will begin Spring 2026.

Department of Counseling

The BS in Behavioral Sciences is housed in the College of Education and Human Development and launched in Fall 2025. The aim of this degree is to equip bachelors level students to work with an array of populations within helping roles upon graduation. This 120-credit undergraduate program has three tracks in which students may specialize, addiction sciences, behavior analysis, and child life sciences, or they may choose to complete the degree without specializing.

The Department of Counseling offers three CACREP-accredited programs: Master of Science (M.S.) in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Master of Education (M.Ed.) in School Counseling, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Counselor Education and Supervision. Each year, the department serves approximately 450 students across the three programs. The Department of Counseling is comprised of eight full-time tenured/tenure-track and six fixed-term faculty members, with additional adjunct faculty who support the program's mission. The faculty rigorously engage in research, publications, and grants, and have been active in professional service at the state and national levels, serving in numerous leadership roles within the American Counseling Association and its divisions and Chi Sigma Iota.

Application Information

We are seeking exceptional applicants with a) well documented leadership experience b) a high desire to serve undergraduate student c) aptitude to lead and further develop a new undergraduate program, c) a record of teaching excellence, and d) a clear and strong counselor identity. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years post-doctoral experience, have strong organizational skills, be adept at networking and resourcing, and be eager to focus their professional roles on leadership and teaching. This is a non-tenure track position with a three-year reoccurring contract, renewable upon university approval.

Essential Functions:

  • Teach undergraduate courses in the COEHD Behavioral Science degree program and graduate courses in the Department of Counseling.
  • Serve as the Undergraduate Advisor of Record (UGAR) for the new BS degree in Behavioral Sciences.
  • Provide leadership in developing and leading the new Behavioral Science Undergraduate program, serving as the "face" of the program and engaging in recruitment activities.
  • Facilitate essential program development tasks such as curriculum development, course planning, hiring, advising, field placement development, etc.
  • Qualify as core faculty for the Department of Counseling.

Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctoral degree from a CACREP accredited or related program that qualifies for core faculty status under the CACREP 2024 standards.
  • This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching experience at graduate and/or undergraduate levels (CACREP accredited counseling program).
  • Knowledge of Texas LCDC certification requirements.
  • Holds Texas LCDC and/or LPC.
  • Proven leadership in an education program leading to Texas LCDC certifications, including managing teams, timelines, and compliance requirements.

  • Two recommendation letters are required to be hired, but not required to complete your application.

This position will work on campus (Main Campus or Downtown). Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.

This position is contingent upon a successful background check. Verification of a valid driver's license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) may be completed as applicable. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
