Assistant Director, Client Systems & Device Strategy
Job Description Summary
The Associate Director, Client Services, System and Device Strategy, is a strategic leader in Information Systems, providing guidance, oversight and direction device and endpoint experience at Wake Forest University. The individual supervises a technical team of experts supporting and optimizing enterprise device management platforms for Windows OS, macOS and iOS environments, automated cloud backup, image development, and provisioning. The position requires nurturing and maintaining strong relationships within IS and in the broader university IT support community to ensure continuous alignment with campus needs. Additionally, the role guides evolving/enhanced configurations beyond those within Client Services scope of management, collaborating with other teams to meet evolving needs of the Wake Forest University community. The ideal candidate consistently explores opportunities to enhance the campus experience related to devices and software, utilizing their experience and expertise to resolve University challenges systematically. Process improvement, innovation and a solution-oriented mindset are key in this role.

Job Description
Essential Functions
The role's core functions are centered on careful supervision of the team’s projects and processes, oversight of the device ecosystem, and continuous improvement:
- System and Device Strategy: Develops and oversees the long-term enterprise system environment expertise and strategy for device management, security, and software delivery to enhance the campus experience.
- Technical Team Oversight: Directly manages a technical team focused on administering and configuring enterprise tools, including Jamf, SCCM, Intune, enterprise software distribution, and CrashPlan enterprise backup
- Build and maintain enterprise vendor partnerships for the benefit of Wake Forest University community, advocating for features, adjustments, fixes or other improvements to the campus experience
- Continuous Improvement: Continually assesses the performance and efficacy of client-facing enterprise systems and device configuration. Develops and implements process and quality improvements to align configuration with evolving campus needs.
- Security Alignment: Leads initiatives to maintain team focus on application and device security configuration in partnership with Information Security colleagues.
- Maintains the security and confidentiality of private, proprietary or sensitive information and data.
- Strategic Collaboration: Collaborates with campus partners to conceive and develop emerging and/or improved technologies and system configurations. Collaborates with other managers/leaders in the IS department to ensure continuous improvement in system quality and operations.
- Provides supportive leadership, integrity, and accountability to a team of technical staff, guiding and developing them in strategic device management.
- Policy and Procedures: Establishes and recommends processes and protocols related to device management, system configuration, and security.
- Availability: Availability to work after hours and/or weekends and on-call, as necessary or as scheduled.

Additional Job Description
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Experience: 5-8 years professional experience including 2 years supervisory experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Technical Leadership: Excellent ability as a manager and leader of highly technical staff.
- Device Management Expertise: Deep technical knowledge and hands-on experience in administering and strategically utilizing enterprise device management platforms such as Jamf, SCCM, and Intune
- System and Security Expertise: Strong knowledge and experience in systems analysis, administration, and continuous improvement of security configurations. Honors a NIST framework-aligned approach and other information and data security best practices
- Strategic Planning: Experience in establishing short-range and long-range departmental goals to achieve functional area objectives, specifically for enterprise device and system strategies.
- Coordination: Ability to skillfully and sensitively coordinate the efforts of multiple technical teams within and outside of Information Systems.
- Experience supporting students and BYOD (bring your own device) devices
- Decision Making: Effective and insightful decision-making abilities, particularly in high-pressure or urgent situations related to enterprise system stability.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Supplemental computer hardware and software knowledge and work experience.
- Project management experience
- ITIL, A+, or other enterprise IT certifications
