We are expanding our Cyber Security Capability and seeking an experienced Cyber Security Operations Manager to play a pivotal role in strengthening the University’s security posture. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team at a formative stage, where your leadership and expertise will have a tangible, lasting impact.
As the operational lead, you will shape how the University monitors, responds to, and mitigates cyber threats, while guiding the uplift of our security processes, technologies, and practices. Working closely with the CISO, you will help build a cohesive, high performing team that is resilient, forward performing and aligned with sector best practice.
This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for someone who enjoys mentoring and developing a team, and equally comfortable stepping in alongside to solve complex operational challenges.
About the Role
- Provide day-to-day leadership of the Cyber Security Operations function, including incident response, threat monitoring, vulnerability management, and security tooling operations.
- Oversee and continuously improve operational processes, ensuring they are efficient, scalable, and aligned with strategic security objectives.
- Lead the response to emerging cyber threats, coordinating technical teams and ensuring timely, effective mitigation.
- Drive uplift initiatives across monitoring, detection, and operational capability, consolidating activities currently dispersed across teams.
- Mentor, guide, and develop cyber operations staff, fostering a strong culture of capability growth and continuous improvement.
- Work closely with the CISO and GRC Manager to ensure operational activities support enterprise-wide risk management, compliance obligations, and strategic priorities.
- Contribute to the planning and implementation of new tools, technologies, and workforce expansion as the function matures.
About You (Selection Criteria)
- Extensive experience in operational cyber security, including incident response, threat detection, and technical security operations.
- Demonstrated capability to lead, mentor, and develop a team, ideally within a growing or maturing cyber security function.
- Strong understanding of contemporary cyber threats, security team practices, and relevant regulatory requirements.
- Proven experience improving processes, uplifting capability, and implementing security tooling in complex environments.
- Excellent judgement under pressure, with the ability to coordinate responses to high impact incidents and communicate effectively with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
- A collaborative, pragmatic approach, with the willingness to be hands-on with daily workload to meet the outcome and support team objectives.
- Strong commitment to building a mature, resilient, and high-performing security operations capability that aligns with our institutional strategy.
