Assistant Director, Facility Services
Do Great Things! Durham Technical Community College is hiring an Assistant Director in the Facility Services Department. The Assistant Director of Facility Services supports the Director by providing day-to-day operational oversight of facilities services across all college campuses and locations. The role focuses on coordinating and supervising preventative maintenance, repairs, minor renovations, custodial services, grounds maintenance, and building services to ensure facilities are safe, functional, and well-maintained. The Assistant Director oversees assigned staff and vendors, monitors work orders and service levels and supports project implementation. Working closely with the Director and campus partners, the Assistant Director helps ensure efficient facilities operations in support of the college's mission.
- Self-driven and able to work and produce results with minimal supervision.
- Provide direct supervision of those personnel responsible for grounds keeping, shipping & receiving, surplus materials, mail services, housekeeping, and all maintenance and preventive maintenance required in the facilities.
- Implement and provide oversight for contracted services in maintenance, housekeeping, and landscaping.
- Collaborate and maintain a good rapport with Building Coordinators.
- Ability to troubleshoot and determine solutions for all areas of maintenance. Including but not limited to; Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC and General Maintenance.
- Performs and/or assists in maintenance and repair tasks, responds to the most sensitive or complex issues, and provides relief or back-up duties as needed, according to current department need.
- Implement and supervise college policies and procedures regarding mail services, shipping & receiving, and surplus materials.
- Develop and implement department policies and procedures that provides effective and consistent services to the college in: maintenance, housekeeping, landscaping, mail service, and shipping & receiving.
- Develop contracts for construction projects and general service providers.
- Provide oversight, direction, and implementation of the Brightly computer Work Order system as developed by the college to include coordination with Facility technicians and campus users.
- Schedule and assign duties for those under your supervision.
- Ensure that all safety procedures and equipment provided by the college are used by all department personnel as required by OSHA, the college Safety Committee and the Facility Services Department.
- Create and review the work schedules for all Facility Services Department employees and report such to Facilities Service Director.
- Conduct performance evaluations of those employees within your purview in accordance with college procedures.
- Recommend and assist with the professional development and job related training for department personnel.
- Be willing to train and upgrade knowledge in assigned duties.
- Show initiative in the job to ensure a continuous, timely and efficient operation, use good judgment without constant or direct supervision, and be alert for new ideas and improvements.
- Be prepared to change and adjust schedule by the season, quarter or semester, and when otherwise necessary to perform tasks deemed appropriate by the Director of Facility Services or other appropriate college officials.
- Utilize the NC eProcurement system and the college purchasing agent to acquire all supplies, materials, and equipment required for maintenance, housekeeping, grounds keeping, mail services and shipping & receiving.
- Ensure that equipment and the supply inventory of frequently used items are monitored on a continual basis to ensure that stock levels are within required limits, and procure seasonal items as needed.
- Ensure all Facility Services Service Vehicles are properly maintained and tracked with a fleet Management Program.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering, plant maintenance, industrial systems, Business Administration, architecture, or in related facilities fields.
- Have a valid NC driver's license.
Work Experience:
Bachelor's degree with a minimum of three (3) years' experience in supervising and managing personnel, with a minimum of four (4) years of training and/or experience in troubleshooting and maintaining commercial or industrial facility electrical, HVAC, plumbing systems, building controls, building repairs, grounds equipment and maintenance.
