Job Description

DUTIES: UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME DU LAC seeks an Assistant Director for Communications and Operations for Sister Thea Bowman Center in Notre Dame, Indiana. This position does not require travel. Duties include:

  • Operations (45%): Work with each office to coordinate the utilization of the shared program budget, which will support student groups, programming, and the work of all three departments within the Center. In conjunction with the LaFortune Building Manager, this role will manage and serve as the ND Central liaison to manage the Center's facility reservations. Working with professional staff from each office to organize and manage facility and program requests for the Center spaces, organizing event details and logistics. Work with the directors and staff of LaFortune to create policies for the Center spaces and establish a comprehensive strategic plan for areas of direct oversight and ensure facilities and activities support the overall mission of the Center. Work with Center directors to maintain and update the Center theming throughout meeting rooms, huddle rooms, and lounges. Design and acquire products for the Center that help promote brand and image, including but not limited to organizing the 'Question of the day?', music within the facility, and other theming needs throughout the space. Collaborate with the three departments to lead special event programming that will exist in the space and be representative of the vision of the Center such as open houses, social programming, or educational programming that cuts across the missions of each office and engages students who are involved in each office. Represent the Center on relevant Divisional and University Committees and working groups as necessary. Support various administrative responsibilities of the Center, including other duties as assigned.
  • Communications (50%): Oversee ongoing stewardship of the Center's web sites, social media, and other existing promotional channels; Work closely with the Center's colleagues in development, delivery, and assessment of promotional materials for programs, services, support, and resources to students and other key stakeholders; Advise colleagues regarding best practices in communications and marketing through the continual assessment of new and emerging communication channels for compatibility with needs of both students and the Center. Develop and maintain strong working relationship with Student Affairs Communications Program Director and serve as an active member of Division Communicators group; Work to ensure the Center's communications are in keeping with both Divisional and University branding standards. Work with the Center's departments to develop communications goals and measurable outcomes for the Center; Advise and Provide recommendations to the Center's three directors based on marketing initiatives through metrics, conducting research on website analytics, and staying up to date on recent trends in social media; Benchmark other Universities and organizations to develop best practices on web site utilization, social media usage, and various other online resources; Create and oversee systems for reception and posting of student group and departments marketing materials on video boards located on the 2nd floor of LaFortune Student Center and throughout campus. Work with each of the departments to organize any annual endowment reporting and communication for the Center.
  • (5%): Participate as integral member of a large, multifaceted Student Affairs team interacting daily with colleagues across the Division.

Qualifications

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a related degree field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Two years of experience in the job offered or related position. Must have: Experience with desktop publishing software (DTP), Adobe suite, and Google Docs. Experience with website tools such as Wordpress and Conductor. Experience with Anthology software platform.
