The Assistant Director for Marketing (Graphic Design, Brand Management & Web Support) is a highly skilled visual communicator who serves as Manhattanville University's in-house graphic designer and steward of its visual brand. This role is responsible for transforming institutional priorities into engaging, high-quality visual and digital assets while ensuring consistency and adherence to Manhattanville's brand standards across all marketing and communications channels, including the University website.
This position combines hands-on design production with brand governance, marketing project management, and front-end web support. The Assistant Director oversees projects from intake through delivery, manages brand approvals through Marq, and supports the visual and structural integrity of the University's web presence in close collaboration with IT and digital other colleagues.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Graphic Design & Visual Communication
- Serve as Manhattanville University's in-house graphic designer, producing high-quality visual assets across print, digital, environmental, and web platforms.
- Design marketing materials including event collateral, print publications, digital graphics, signage, presentations, advertisements, branded templates, and web graphics.
- Translate institutional messaging and complex information into clear, visually compelling designs.
- Ensure all design work reflects Manhattanville's visual identity, tone, and brand standards.
Brand Management, Visual Identity & Governance
- Act as a steward of the University's visual brand, ensuring consistent application of brand standards across departments, initiatives, platforms, and digital properties.
- Manage brand approvals through Marq, including review, feedback, and final sign-off.
- Maintain and update brand guidelines, templates, and approved assets to support campus-wide compliance.
- Provide consultation and guidance to campus partners on proper brand usage.
Web Design & Front-End Support
- Support the visual design, layout, and brand consistency of Manhattanville's website and affiliated digital properties.
- Collaborate with digital communications and IT teams to implement design updates, templates, landing pages, and enhancements within the CMS.
- Create and optimize web graphics, layouts, and visual elements to improve user experience, accessibility, and visual coherence.
- Assist with basic front-end updates including content layout, formatting, image optimization, and brand alignment.
- Ensure web content aligns with brand standards, accessibility best practices, and institutional messaging.
Marketing Project Management & Internal Liaison
- Serve as a primary liaison for marketing design requests, clarifying scope, timelines, and deliverables.
- Manage projects from intake through completion, coordinating with internal team members and external vendors.
- Provide regular status updates to stakeholders and ensure projects remain on schedule and within scope.
- Support prioritization and workflow management in alignment with departmental goals.
Collaboration & Production Support
- Collaborate with communications, editorial, and digital colleagues on integrated marketing and communications campaigns.
- Prepare and manage design files through review, revision, and final production.
- Coordinate with external vendors for printing, signage, web support, and specialty production.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Exceptional visual design and layout skills.
- Strong understanding of brand systems and visual identity standards.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
- Working knowledge of web design principles, accessibility standards, and CMS platforms.
- Ability to translate strategic goals into effective visual communication
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual communications, marketing, web design, or a related field.
Experience:
- Five to seven years of professional experience in graphic design, brand management, marketing, or digital communications preferred.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating professional design work across print, digital, and web platforms.
- Experience with Marq or similar brand management platforms preferred.
- Familiarity with CMS-based editing and basic HTML/CSS preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times.
Salary:
The annual salary for this position is $66,300.
Hours Expectation:
Full-time, 35 hours per week
