The Assistant Director of Equipment Operations works under the general supervision of the Associate Athletic Director - Internal Operations and will be part of a team managing the day-to-day equipment operations of 24 varsity sports and administrative areas with specific areas of direct oversight to be assigned by leadership. The Assistant Director is responsible for the ordering, budgeting, branding, issuing, maintenance, inventory, and storage of all equipment and apparel of assigned areas as the primary point of contact.
All duties must be performed in compliance with University, Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities
Portfolio Leadership & Service Delivery
- Lead equipment operations for assigned high-complexity sports or multiple programs.
- Anticipate and resolve complex equipment, safety, and compliance issues.
- Serve as escalation point for coaches on equipment-related matters.
- Ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery across assigned portfolios.
Inventory, Compliance & Operational Judgment
- Oversee execution of inventory control systems for assigned portfolios.
- Ensure adherence to NCAA and conference equipment standards.
- Exercise independent judgment in equipment decisions within established parameters.
Student Staffing Leadership
- Lead student staffing models, training programs, and daily workflows.
- Ensure appropriate coverage and readiness for practices, competitions, and travel.
- Mentor student leaders and promote accountability and development.
Vendor Coordination & Budget Management
- Lead vendor coordination for assigned portfolios and provide purchasing recommendations.
- Track equipment budgets and spending for assigned programs.
- Support planning for replacement cycles and seasonal needs.
Standards & Process Improvement
- Provide input into equipment standards, workflows, and process improvements.
- Support consistency and best practices across equipment operations.
Perform other duties and assist with projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Formal Education
- Bachelor's Degree
Work Experience
- 2+ years experience working in collegiate athletics equipment operations or related role.
Work Skills
- Strong judgement, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage complex sport portfolios.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Specific Job Knowledge
- Advanced knowledge of NCAA Equipment compliance.
Equipment Knowledge
- Experience with industrial washers/dryers.
Other
- Evening, weekend, and early-morning hours may be required to support teams and programs.
- Physical labor.
- Ability to lift and carry boxes and equipment
Preferred Qualifications
Formal Education
- Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA) Certification, preferred.
Work Experience
- Experience with inventory control program/process.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours
- Physical labor
- Requires the ability to walk, stand, lift up to approximately 45 pounds, and move boxes and equipment
- Evening, weekend, and early-morning hours may be required to support teams and programs
Salary Posting Information
This position falls within salaried grade 13 and the range for this position is $51,000-63,800. The final salary will be determined with consideration of several factors including the selected candidate's qualifications, department budget availability, market data, and internal equity.
