Assistant Director of Leadership Programs & External Relations

Overview

Berkeley Divinity School (BDS), the Episcopal seminary at Yale, cultivates a set of varied stakeholders and supporters and is now launching a major initiative to create a set of leadership programs to equip clergy and lay leaders in the Episcopal Church. The Assistant Director position will play an integral role with the implementation of the programs supporting both the Executive Director of the Leadership Programs and the Director of Advancement.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Leadership Programs, the Assistant Director is responsible for the following:

  • Administrative support for leadership programs including online learning for clergy and lay leaders, The Leader’s Way and Virtual Curacy Programs, and podcasts.
  • Administrative support for fundraising efforts and external relations for BDS as a whole including key events, alumni relations, communications, gift tracking, expense reporting, and social media marketing.
  • In partnership with the leadership team, implementing a comprehensive communications and publicity plan for BDS including video, simple graphic design, social media channels, email marketing, and website updates.
  • Recruitment of participants for the residential program, short courses, and virtual mentorship program under the direction of the Executive Director of Leadership Programs.
  • Assists the Executive Director of Leadership Programs in program evaluation and oversees and compiles participant surveys.
  • Works with the Dean of Berkeley Divinity School and the Executive Director to disseminate the curriculum from the residential and virtual mentorship programs, as well as the short courses to amplify the impact of the School’s initiative.
  • Oversees the student assistants who will help the Assistant Director implement the programs.
  • Organizing and executing the programs of the School’s own leadership, especially the School’s Board of Trustees.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  1. Master’s degree preferred.
  2. Experience in nonprofit and faith-based organizations.
  3. Demonstrated interest in theological education, ministry, fundraising, leadership development, innovation, or another relevant field.
  4. Active working knowledge of The Episcopal Church, or demonstrated willingness to learn about the needs and aspirations of the Episcopal and Anglican communities.
  5. Commitment to the mission of Berkeley Divinity School.

Skills & Abilities:

  1. Familiarity with digital and in-person pedagogies and contemporary media.
  2. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and administrative skills.
  3. Strong customer service skills. Ability to create a communications plan.
  4. Strong proficiency in social media and ability to create email marketing campaigns.
  5. Ability to oversee event planning including registration. Ability to manage a CRM database.
  6. Ability to manage websites.

Principal Responsibilities

  1. In support of the overall mission, plans, directs and oversees programmatic activities.
  2. Develops, implements, and maintains operational policies and procedures.
  3. Manages program communications; identifies outreach potential, and promotes philanthropic and collaborative support of the program.
  4. Works closely with leadership, internal and external colleagues, and community residents to further develop and implement strategic plans.
  5. Identifies, solicits, and cultivates community partnerships and collaborations to assist in the development and growth of the program.
  6. Tracks all program activities and regularly informs leadership of progress on each initiative. Recommends structural or programmatic adjustments, changes or additions based on full knowledge of missions, goals, and objectives. Develops metrics to identify and measure the success of the program.
  7. Assists in identifying and evaluating potential future funding sources, and contributes to the submission of grants and contracts supporting the program, including the annual submission and writing of all content areas and budgetary sections of grant applications.
  8. Develops and manages the program's operating budget.
  9. Manages the administrative infrastructure of the program. Manages human resources including staffing and hiring, supervision, performance development, counseling and discipline, if warranted. Oversees and manages information systems, facilities, and space needs.
  10. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in a related field and two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Salary Range

$61,500.00 - $91,875.00
