Position Summary Reporting to the Assistant Dean, the Assistant Director of Student Involvement for Commuter Student Services serves as the dedicated leader of a comprehensive Commuter Student Services (CSS) program to increase engagement, academic and co-curricular success, and retention. This includes assessing/addressing the needs of commuters, and coordinating a variety of support services and programs, including oversight of the Campus Center’s Student Lounge, CSS website, and communications. This position requires some evening and weekend hours while working primarily 9 am -5 pm onsite. Essential Functions- Works closely with the Assistant Dean and partners with colleges to review and implement research-based strategies to enhance commuter retention and alumni engagement. and work with partners in the colleges and other areas.
- Advises the Commuting Students Association to develop an active commuter student body, gather feedback, enhance communication, and encourage frequent diverse programming.
- Recruits, trains and supervisors Commuter Assistants, undergraduate student staff hired to enhance commuter student engagement in the Rose Hill community.
- Spearheads major signature programs in conjunction with student groups such as Commuter Week, an annual fundraiser for charity known as “Thanks-give-away,” and the Commuter Appreciation Reception.
- Works closely with the Assistant Dean and student organizations to increase Bronx community partnerships to enhance the commuter and non-traditional commuter student experience.
- Work with the Assistant Dean to use the assessment and online content management system for student groups, Rams Involved, to help maintain information, advertise events, and communicate with specific populations such as Commuter Students.
- Represents the OSI department as assigned for Divisional and Committee meetings to ensure commuter representation.
- Assists and supports large-scale Office for Student Involvement events such as campus-wide social events, Club Leader Summit, senior class events, Spring Weekend, and other major programs.
- Builds student leaders, administrative, and academic partnerships to increase commuter student engagement and retention.
- Collaborates on University-wide events such as Homecoming, President’s Ball, Commencement, Spring Weekend, Jubilee, Family Weekend, and Admissions Open Houses to increase commuter engagement.
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum 2 years of experience in the area of event planning, budget management, leadership, and student programming.
- Demonstrated knowledge of program development and implementation, advising, and group dynamics as necessary to perform the duties designated by this position.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and training skills.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and experience multitasking with various projects and competing priorities.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft and Google Office suites.
- Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.
- Master’s Degree (or pursuit of) in Student Personnel Administration, Counseling, or related area.
