Job Description

The Assistant Director of the Office of Mission Engagement and Church Affairs (OMECA) plays a vital role in advancing the University of Notre Dame's Catholic and Holy Cross mission. As a key member of the OMECA leadership team, this position helps shape and strengthen Notre Dame's service to the Church and its engagement with faith communities around the world.

OMECA coordinates a wide range of high-impact initiatives-both within and beyond the University-that extend Notre Dame's contributions to the Church and the global community. These include the Tantur Ecumenical Institute, the Notre Dame-Newman Centre for Faith and Reason, the House of Brigid, the Sorin Seminar for Faculty, the Joyce Seminar for University Administrators, the Ministry of Governance Seminar, and the Holy Cross Leadership Program.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Executive Director of Mission Engagement and Church Affairs, the Assistant Director plays a central role in stewarding Notre Dame's relationships with the Catholic Church and other faith communities. This position combines strategic coordination, program leadership, communications, and relationship-building in service of the University's mission.

A major responsibility of this role is leadership of the House of Brigid, a post-graduate service program in Ireland. The Assistant Director oversees all aspects of the program, including recruitment, admissions, immigration processing, and participant support, ensuring a high-quality experience that reflects Notre Dame's values and mission.

The Assistant Director also supports key institutional relationships with leaders of the Catholic Church, the Congregation of Holy Cross, and prominent Catholic organizations. A particular focus is coordinating OMECA's collaboration with the Holy Cross General Administration for the Holy Cross Leadership Program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational support to the Vice President for Mission Engagement and Church Affairs
  • Lead administration and program management for the House of Brigid, including recruitment, admissions, and immigration processes
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with Catholic Church leaders, Holy Cross leadership, and partner organizations
  • Coordinate OMECA's collaboration with the Holy Cross General Administration
  • Lead writing and editing projects on behalf of OMECA
  • Maintain a comprehensive record of Notre Dame's engagement with the Church, particularly with the Vatican

A high emphasis is put on:

  • Design and implement communications with Catholic leaders and Church partners
  • Manage processes related to clergy ministering at Notre Dame
  • Prepare remarks, presentations, and visual materials for the Vice President's speaking engagements

Why Join Notre Dame

This is a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the mission of one of the world's leading Catholic universities. The Assistant Director serves as a trusted representative of OMECA, helping to advance Notre Dame's relationships with the Church, strengthen its global engagement, and support initiatives that shape the future of Catholic leadership and higher education.
