Baker University seeks an Assistant Director – Student Experience. The Assistant Director plays a vital role in shaping a campus culture where every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to succeed. Through leadership, collaboration, and advocacy, the position advances Baker University’s commitment to inclusion and belonging by fostering meaningful engagement, supporting diverse student populations, and strengthening partnerships across the campus community. This role serves as a connector between students, faculty, and staff, ensuring that justice and equity are not only celebrated but woven into the everyday experience of the Baker community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Justice and Belonging programming: Coordinate student-facing justice and belonging programming, education, and training including campus-wide cultural awareness and celebration programming. Advise Mungano and the Total Equality Alliance (TEA); Serve as secondary advising support for identity-based student organizations; Organize add-on graduation celebrations; Assess program effectiveness and implement continuous improvement
- KC Scholars Representative: Attend quarterly KC Scholars meetings and serve as Baker University’s chief student contact for retention and success support. Support KC Scholars students through annual welcome meeting, 1:1 meetings, campus resources, and check-ins throughout the semester. Act as first contact on all campuses for assistance such as connecting to resources, reporting, and requesting other support, both on and off campus.
- International Student Services: Assess, develop, and implement programming for international students. Work closely and coordinate with Admission, Registrar’s Office, other Student Affairs colleagues, and Student Academic Support departments to provide structure to the orientation process and ongoing care of international students. Develop opportunities for cross-cultural exchange between international and domestic students Serve as a Designated School Official.
- Lead the DEI Work Group: Facilitate this cross-campus leadership group, aligning student, staff, and faculty initiatives to foster a more inclusive campus climate
- Partner with Campus Ministries: With Campus Ministries, ensure the community has access and exposure to a diverse array of faith traditions and celebrations; Foster interfaith understanding through programming, partnerships, and student-led initiatives
- Baker Outreach Network: Participate in Baker Outreach Network, attend bi-weekly committee meetings, and manage assigned caseload by providing timely outreach, intervention, and care to students in need, referring them to appropriate campus resources.
Qualifications:
Master’s Degree or equivalent preferred or four to eight years related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
