Assistant Director, Student Leadership Programs
Boston College seeks a dynamic and innovative professional to serve as the Assistant Director for Student Leadership Programs within the Office of Student Involvement (OSI). This full-time role is integral to fostering student engagement and leadership development in alignment with the Jesuit Catholic mission of the University.
The Assistant Director is responsible for the creation, implementation, and facilitation of comprehensive leadership development opportunities for Boston College students utilizing best practices and theoretical models in student leadership. The Assistant Director oversees experiential and other leadership programs, managing signature initiatives such as:
- Student Involvement Fair
- Student Organization Day
- Monthly Student Organizations Leadership Development Programs
- Annual Ever To Excel Leadership Awards
- Summit
This position will also manage a portfolio of registered student organizations on their day to day event planning, financial management, and follow best practices in regards to university policies.
This position supervises graduate and undergraduate student assistants, monitors budgets totaling (approximately) $200,000, and contributes to major campus events, including, but not limited to Weeks of Welcome, Homecoming, Showdown, Marathon Monday, and Senior Week programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, facilitate and assess leadership development programs utilizing best practices and theoretical models.
- Advise, manage, and support student groups and organizations, ensuring alignment with University values and leadership principles.
- Manage logistics and programming for signature events and initiatives.
- Supervise student staff, fostering their professional growth and development.
- Oversee budgetary planning and controls for leadership programs and special initiatives.
- Collaborate with campus partners to support division-wide events and inclusive community-building efforts.
Each staff member in the Division of Student Affairs is expected to support division and university-wide initiatives, staff events, and serve on committees as needed.
Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $65,550 to $81,950; salary commensurate with relevant experience.
Requirements
- Master's degree required in Student Affairs, Higher Education, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated progressive student affairs experience, preferably in the development and execution of student leadership programs and student programs and/or activities
- Demonstrated knowledge of student leadership theories and best practices.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience advising student groups and managing complex events.
- Financial management skills, including oversight of program budgets.
- Demonstrated experience developing and managing large-scale, multi-events programs from start to finish.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in leadership initiatives.
- Collaborative approach to working with students, faculty, and staff.
- Excellent conflict-resolution and problem-solving skills.
- Strong public speaking, group facilitation, and writing abilities.
- Commitment to professional development and continuous learning.
- Familiarity with the Jesuit Catholic mission and ability to integrate its principles into programming.
- This position requires flexibility to work evenings and weekends to support programs and events.
