Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor in Architectural Professional Practice and Real Estate

About the Opportunity

The School of Architecture in the College of Arts, Media and Design invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track Teaching Professor position in Architectural Professional Practice and Real Estate at the rank of Assistant or Associate. This position will include teaching professional practice lectures and seminars, urban and real estate development seminars, and related design studios at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Some of these courses can contribute to our newly developed Architecture and Business combined major. We seek an innovative colleague eager to contribute to courses rooted in real-world applications to prepare our students for staying current with industry trends and prepare them for diverse roles in the design and construction of the built environment. This position will be fully located on the Boston campus of Northeastern University.

Responsibilities

This position will entail teaching two or three courses per fall and spring semesters (4-6 courses per academic year) at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Rank as an associate teaching professor will be assessed in consideration of the candidate's previous teaching experience and creative practice and/or research experience. In addition to teaching, all full-time faculty are expected to contribute to the cultural life and function of the school through service commitments on committees, special projects, and student advising and engagement activities. These service roles are determined based on alignments with the candidate's past experiences and profiles in teaching and creative practice. Qualified candidates must be prepared to work with global student populations.

Qualifications

Ideal candidates would hold at minimum a terminal professional degree in architecture (M.Arch) and be a licensed architect. Applicants with a Master of Business Administration degree (MBA) and prior teaching experience in architectural professional practice and real estate are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates at the Associate level of Teaching Professor must have at least five years of academic or equivalent experience.

Additional Information

Applicants should submit: a cover letter indicating their interest in and expertise for the position; a curriculum vitae; and names of three references who will not be contacted unless the candidate is selected for a short list. Candidates selected for the short list will be contacted for additional materials including, but not limited to, teaching and creative practice portfolios and additional statements. Questions may be directed to the search committee chair, Peter Wiederspahn at p.wiederspahn@northeastern.edu. Priority deadline for review of applications is February 18, 2026.
