Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor in Fundamental Design and Landscape Architecture (Full-time, Non-tenure track)
About the Opportunity
The School of Architecture in the College of Arts, Media, and Design invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track Teaching Professor in Beginning Design and Landscape Architecture at the rank of Assistant or Associate, with a focus on teaching first and second year studios and seminars on fundamental site design, landform and grading, and representation. This position will be fully located on the Boston campus of Northeastern University. We seek an innovative colleague eager to contribute to the growth and creative evolution of our first-year design curriculum, which bridges both architecture and landscape architecture, and our Bachelor of Landscape Architecture program.
Responsibilities
This position will entail teaching two or three courses per fall and spring semesters (4-6 courses per academic year). Class formats may range between design studios, workshop courses, seminars, and/or lectures. In addition to teaching, the faculty member will be expected to develop, maintain, and coordinate curricular initiatives as we begin the process of accrediting our Bachelor of Landscape Architecture program. Rank as an Associate teaching professor will be assessed in consideration of the candidate's previous teaching experience and creative practice and/or research experience. In addition to teaching, all full-time faculty are expected to contribute to the cultural life and function of the program through service commitments on committees, special projects, and student advising and engagement activities. These service roles are determined based on alignments with candidate's past experiences and profiles in teaching research and creative practice. Qualified candidates must be prepared to work with global student populations.
Qualifications
Candidates must have, at minimum, a terminal professional degree in landscape architecture (MLA) and studio teaching experience. Ideal candidates would possess terminal degrees in both architecture and landscape (M. Arch. and MLA). Candidates at the appointment at the Associate level of Teaching Professor must have at least five years of academic or equivalent experience.
Additional Information
Applicants should submit a cover letter indicating their interest in the position and relevant experience; a curriculum vitae; and names of three references who will not be contacted unless the candidate is selected for a short list. Candidates selected for the short list will be contacted for additional materials including, but not limited to, teaching and creative practice portfolios, as well as additional statements. Questions may be directed to the search committee chair, Sara Carr, at sa.carr@northeastern.edu. Priority deadline for review is February 18. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by the law.
