Assistant Professor, Asian and Asian American Studies
The Department of Asian and Asian American Studies at Loyola Marymount University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning in August 2026.
We seek candidates specializing in Asian Studies with expertise in the social sciences. We especially welcome applicants with background in cultural anthropology, human geography, social history, or other related fields.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach both lower-division introductory courses and upper-division courses in their area of specialization in the Asian and Pacific Studies Program. The ability to contribute to the department's broader curricular vision of transpacific and global Asia studies is preferred. The candidate will also be expected to help grow the number of majors and minors in Asian and Pacific Studies and to contribute to the vibrancy of the faculty and student community within and beyond the department.
Applicants must demonstrate excellence in teaching and strong scholarship or scholarly potential. We are especially interested in candidates whose teaching and research agendas complement and broaden the department's existing strengths. A Ph.D. in fields consistent with the position is required by the time of appointment.
The standard teaching load for tenure-track faculty is 2-2-2-3 over a two-year cycle, with expectations to advise students and provide service to the department, college, and university. We invite candidates of all backgrounds, life experiences, and beliefs to apply.
Applicants should submit the following materials: 1) Cover letter, 2) Curriculum vitae, 3) Statement of research, 4) Statement of teaching philosophy, 5) Student teaching evaluations (both quantitative and qualitative), 6) Sample syllabi, 7) Writing samples (article or chapter-length), 8) Graduate transcripts.
In addition, three letters of recommendation (at least one of which must address the candidate's teaching ability) should be submitted directly by the recommenders or via Interfolio to AAASFacultySearch@lmu.edu.
