Position Summary
The Department of International Affairs at the University of Georgia (UGA) invites applications for (2) tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in National Security and Artificial Intelligence. The incumbents will also have faculty affiliations in the Benson-Bertsch Center for International Trade and Security and the UGA Institute for Artificial Intelligence. Candidates with relevant training and experience may also affiliate with the Department of Public Administration and Policy.
The successful candidates will contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching both in-person and potentially online, mentor and advise students, direct graduate-level projects/theses, conduct professional and collegiate service activities both within UGA and the community at large, and collaborate across departments and research centers. Candidates will be expected to develop a robust research agenda and secure external funding.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants should have an earned Ph.D. degree in political science, international affairs, or related discipline by August 1, 2026.
Additional Requirements: Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in political science, international affairs, or related discipline with AI or data science as a major research method in their scholarship. This position will be hired at the rank of untenured assistant professor. Requirements for each rank and tenure are outlined in the University of Georgia’s Guidelines for Appointment, Promotion and Tenure.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
We seek candidates whose research explores the role of AI in addressing national security threats in conventional and/or non-conventional domains such as cyber and kinetic attack prediction, misinformation detection, prediction of military movements, analysis of influence operations, modeling of natural disasters and impacts on national and regional security, and scenario-building involving chemical, nuclear, or biological threats, pandemics, or engineered pathogens. Sought-after methodological training may include, but is not limited to, natural language processing, large language models, cognitive computing, machine learning, computer vision, neural networks, predictive analytics, or deep learning.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Ideal candidates will demonstrate a robust research program that will lead to high-quality, peer-reviewed publications and will be attractive to external sponsors of research. The candidate should show evidence of excellence in instruction.
