Department Specific Needs: The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a broad range of courses in the Life Sciences, including General Biology along with Microbiology and/or Anatomy & Physiology. The Department is interested in candidates from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Experience working with large programs requiring collegiality and coordination between multiple instructors is desired!
Job Description
Basic Function: Riverside City College is seeking an Assistant Professor, Biology. The successful candidate will have teaching responsibilities in General Biology with additional responsibilities in courses such as Anatomy & Physiology and/or Microbiology. The college supports course offerings Monday through Saturday (including evenings) at both onsite and offsite locations. A successful candidate should demonstrate subject-specific expertise in biology, anatomy/physiology and/or microbiology and the ability to communicate challenging concepts to community college level students in a clear and engaging manner.

Education:
Master's degree in any biological science; OR Bachelor's in any biological science AND Master's in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science; OR the Equivalent. A Ph.D. is preferred. (All degrees and units used to satisfy minimum qualifications shall be from accredited institutions).
Experience:
Required: Two or more years of combined teaching experience in general biology, anatomy and physiology and/or microbiology at the college level.
Desired: Experience working with large programs requiring coordination between instructors as well as experience in developing curriculum, maintaining and updating course outlines of record, and participation in strategic planning and program review.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- The instructional assignment will include lecture and/or laboratory classes in the discipline.
- Assignments are based upon the assumption of workload of forty hours weekly, including but not limited to conducting classes, class preparation, student evaluation, office hours, committee work, curriculum and program development, student learning outcomes assessment, program review, student activities, and other duties per the bargaining unit agreement.
- Institutional service activities are expected of all faculty members.
- Participation in discipline/department decision making processes and work regarding curriculum, program development and other matters are also expected of all department faculty.
- Responsibilities also include maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position.
- Fulfill the duties of a full-time instructor, including, but not limited to, holding weekly office hours and completing 24 hours of 'flex credit' through various available activities and seminars.
- Faculty will participate in outcomes assessment work.
Teaching assignment may include early morning (e.g., 7am), day, evening, online, hybrid, and/or off campus classes.
Conditions of Employment:
Ten-month, tenure-track position. Salary is commensurate with academic preparation, and full-time teaching or equivalent experience with a range from Column C, Step 1 to Column H, Step 6 of the current Faculty Salary Schedule...
