ASSISTANT PROFESSOR

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for a colleague to join the Department of Czech Language with focus on computational linguistics.
MAIN JOB CONTENT
Pedagogical
- Teaching courses focusing on programming and linguistic data processing within the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Computational Linguistics and Czech Studies (approximately 4–6 hours per week on a part-time basis, and approximately 8–10 hours per week on a full-time basis; the number of hours of direct teaching depends on the workload in other areas, such as supervising theses, project work and publishing activities, etc.),
- supervising, advising on or reviewing bachelor’s and master’s theses,
- in exceptional cases, acting as a supervisor or advisor in doctoral programmes,
- contributing to the organisational aspects of teaching activities.
Research
Ensuring research, development and innovation, in particular by initiating and leading research, development or innovation programmes or projects.
This primarily involves the following activities:
- research and publications in the field of NLP, experimental, computational and/or mathematical linguistics,
- involvement in research projects / eventually independent project work.
Other
Participation in ensuring operational and administrative activities related to the academic position according to the instructions of the department head, e.g.:
- routine administrative tasks involved in managing one’s own modules, using e-learning and communicating with students via the MU Information System,
- organisational and administrative activities associated with the degree programme.
WE REQUEST
Professional education, qualifications and experience
- PhD in computational linguistics, NLP, computer science, mathematics, statistics, general linguistics or related fields,
- the ability to teach and lead seminars/lectures in Czech or Slovak (if the applicant is not a native speaker, it is necessary to work intensively on their knowledge of the Czech language with the goal of reaching level B2) and English (level B2),
- publications in the field corresponding to the stage of one’s career; journal publications in the top quartiles,
- professional experience abroad outside the Czech Republic and Slovakia in an academic or research institution for a minimum of 6 months, completed either continuously or in two shorter periods whose combined duration totals at least 6 months.
(Applicants who do not meet the required level of international experience may, in justified cases, include a request for an exception with a brief explanation of their situation with their application.).
