Position Highlights

The faculty of the School of Landscape Architecture and Planning at The University of Arizona invites applicants for a tenure-track assistant professor to support our growing real estate and urban planning programs. We seek a colleague with expertise in real estate who brings a strong understanding of public and private development processes and responsible real estate development. This position will help support our school's Bachelor of Science in Real Estate, Master of Real Estate Development, Undergraduate Minor in Real Estate, as well as the Housing and Real Estate Development concentration in our Master of Science in Urban Planning.

In addition to a primary focus on real estate, the successful candidate may demonstrate engagement with other areas of research and teaching, including but not limited to urban planning, responsible (i.e., triple bottom line) development, commercial real estate, real estate finance, and housing policy and development.

This is a full-time position with a start date targeted for August 2026 or January 2027. Duties & Responsibilities

With the position housed in a college of the built environment, we seek candidates whose primary expertise is in real estate, but whose scholarship or professional expertise intersects with other disciplines of the built environment, such as urban planning, architecture, landscape architecture, and sustainable design.

The successful candidate may have expertise in topics such as but not limited to: quantitative methods in real estate, market analysis, real estate investments, tax policy/law, appraisals (including for new and adaptive reuse projects), finance, construction and/or development management, brokerage, asset and portfolio management, real estate law, land use, or urban economics.

Our real estate degree programs include:

  • Bachelor of Science in Real Estate
  • Undergrad Minor in Real Estate Development
  • Master of Real Estate Development (online and in-person)
  • Master of Science in Urban Planning (Housing and Real Estate Concentration)
  • Also within the school, we offer the Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Built Environments with tracks in sustainable communities and real estate (online and in-person), undergraduate and graduate degrees in landscape architecture, and a certificate in heritage conservation.

The College of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Planning also houses the School of Architecture and the Drachman Institute, which supports the college's legacy of outreach and strong community connections.

In addition to the candidate's subject area expertise, we expect the successful candidate to:

  • Maintain an active research agenda
  • Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in the real estate and related degree programs.
  • Pursue grant opportunities to support individual and/or collaborative research projects
  • Participate in service and community engagement efforts in the department, college, and university
  • Support and contribute to the diversity initiatives in the department, college, and university

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in urban planning, real estate, urban economics, or a related discipline by the time of appointment.
  • Evidence of a research program appropriate for appointment at a research-intensive institution

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching graduate and undergraduate courses (in-person and/or online)
  • Professional experience in real estate or related field
  • Experience building reciprocal relationships and collaborations with communities, including industry partners, local and regional agencies, and/or community groups.
  • Evidence of securing external funding for research program or evidence of potential to secure external funding for research program.
