Duties & Responsibilities:
The Department of Cellular, Molecular and Genetic Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine is seeking an Assistant Professor with training in research areas of cancer, cancer immunology and cancer therapy, especially in areas related to cancer metastasis and drug resistance. Knowledge and experience in these areas is preferred. Candidates should have strong publication records, postdoctoral experience, and experience in receiving external funding.
Research – 95%
The candidate should have a Ph.D. and strong track record in research areas of prostate and breast cancer progression, cancer immunology, metastasis and therapy resistance. Experience in brain and colon cancer also of value. The successful candidate will be required to have a well-developed scholarly/research portfolio with evidence of multi-disciplinary applications and external funding appropriate to complement and expand existing expertise in the department and institute. The candidate is expected to work toward an active funded research program.
Service – 5%
Service as it relates to university policies and procedures such as academic and research training.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. in basic health sciences, or a closely related discipline. Not limited, but prior experiences with multidimensional approaches to study tumor progression and metastasis, e.g., experimental metastasis, survival surgery in animals and live imaging are preferred. Hands on working experiences in animal studies is extremely valuable
- Track record of publications in high-impact journals in the areas of cancer metastasis, immunotherapy and mechanisms of therapy resistance
- Working in different cancer lineages, including prostate, breast, brain and colorectal cancers, are considered positively
- Prior experience in grant drafting is preferred
- Ability to review scientific publications for acceptance to journals considered a plus
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
Salary Range: Commensurate
