The McGill University Department of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time position as a member of the Contract Academic Staff at the rank of Assistant Professor (Clinical). The position is for a Clinician-Scientist at the Jewish General Hospital (JGH) in the Division of General Internal Medicine. This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure. This position is conditional on the Institution successfully obtaining a PEM (i.e., physician permit) for this position.

Our focus is on the care of patients with acute and complex medical disorders and have focused clinical programs including thrombosis medicine.

Job Duties

Please see the Department of Medicine (DOM) website for McGill DoM career path definitions. Our career path definitions specify typical ranges of time allotted to clinical work, teaching (clinical and didactic), research and administration.

As a Clinician-Scientist, the candidate will be expected to spend a minimum of 50% of their time dedicated to research and develop and maintain an independent and productive research program. The research program is expected to attract external peer reviewed funding (e.g. Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Fonds de Recherche Québec—Santé). Internal startup funding may be available on a competitive basis to a suitable candidate.

The JGH Division is committed to growing its research mission in thrombosis medicine and in close collaboration with the Centre of Excellence in Thrombosis and Anticoagulation Care (CETAC) located at the JGH is seeking to a hire a Clinician-Scientist in thrombosis medicine (clinical, population health, or translational research) who will develop an independent, externally funded research program, contribute to the division’s clinical and teaching activities, and help advance the academic mission of McGill University and the JGH.

The successful candidate’s clinical responsibilities will include a commitment to inpatient consultation services in thrombosis medicine, as well as to outpatient ambulatory thrombosis medicine clinics.

The incumbent will also be expected to be actively involved in relevant aspects of McGill’s academic mission (e.g., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees).

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Candidates must:

  • Hold an MD degree and must and be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) in General Internal Medicine;
  • Be eligible for licensure in Quebec;
  • Hold, or be eligible for, certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec;
  • Have acquired fellowship training in Thrombosis Medicine;
  • Have graduate research training (e.g., MSc, PhD, or equivalent);
  • Have a proven track record of research productivity (publications, grants) or strong potential to develop one;
  • Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire these language skills at the level needed to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families and health care professionals.
