Position Summary
The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences at La Salle University invites applicants to apply for a 9-month, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The CSD Department houses both an undergraduate major in Communication Sciences and Disorders and a graduate program in speech-language pathology accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA). The ideal candidate will have expertise and clinical experience in medical speech-language pathology and passion for educating and mentoring future SLPs.
Essential Duties
- Demonstrate teaching excellence in the undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and graduate programs.
- Supervise students on special projects, including independent studies and research.
- Meet with students at least once per semester for academic advising.
- Maintain regular office hours for students.
- Demonstrate active involvement in the CSD Department, the School of Nursing and Health Sciences, the University, and professional and/or community organizations.
Secondary Responsibilities
Represent the CSD department, programs, and clinical services at sponsored events
Required Qualifications
- PhD or EdD in speech-language pathology or a related field. Candidates who are ABD and anticipate completing their degree by December 31, 2026, are encouraged to apply.
- Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology and eligibility for PA licensure as a speech-language pathologist.
- Commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and clinical supervision, and a willingness to serve our well-established, innovative programs and clinics at the University and in the broader community.
- Expertise in one or more of the following areas: motor-speech, feeding, swallowing, voice, and upper airway disorders. Additional experience in augmentative and alternative communication, fluency disorders, and/or bilingualism is a plus.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of La Salle University.
Preferred Qualifications
- Teaching experience in the field of communication sciences and disorders or a related discipline.
- Knowledge and experience with course subject matter, evidence-based teaching and learning practices for in-person and virtual platforms, and student learning assessment and instruction within the discipline.
- Familiarity with the principles of clinical education and supervision, as well as experience supervising graduate student clinicians.
- Experience teaching in-person, online, and/or in hybrid formats.
- Experience with learning management systems such as Canvas and content tools such as PowerPoint, etc.
- Candidates should have excellent communication skills and a student-inspired approach to teaching for educational excellence, equity, advocacy, and service to diverse students and communities.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours
The position will require teaching courses in the evenings a few nights a week and periodically attending university events on the weekend.
