Position Description
The Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design at Georgia State University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Drawing/Painting at the rank of assistant professor. This is a full-time appointment with an anticipated start date of August 2026. We welcome candidates who are active practitioners with fluency in drawing and painting practices as well as a deep knowledge of the discipline’s role within the discourse of contemporary art.
The selected candidate will be responsible for maintaining an active research/creative agenda, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Drawing/Painting, advising BFA and MFA students, and participating in service at the school, college, and university levels. Teaching load for the first three years is four courses (2/2) and five thereafter (3/2).
Required Experience
- Two or more years of professional exhibition experience
- Demonstration of an emerging national/international record of professional accomplishments
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Extensive knowledge of traditional and innovative drawing and painting techniques...
- Knowledge of the history of drawing and painting, as well as contemporary critical issues...
Required Education
MFA in Drawing/Painting by the time of appointment
Preferred Qualifications/Experience
- Experience working with university students from all backgrounds
- Experience supervising and directing a drawing/painting studio...
- Service within academic, professional, and community entities
Salary: $70,000 - $75,000
