Job Overview

The Department of Romance and Arabic Languages & Literatures (RALL) at the University of Cincinnati invites applicants for a non-tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor - Educator in French. The position is open to specialists of French and Francophone Studies in all fields, including French for professional purposes, linguistics, second language acquisition (SLA), literature, and cultural studies. Duties will include coordination of the basic language program in French, training and coordinating graduate assistants in language instruction, and teaching at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track, three to five-year appointment with benefits and opportunity for renewal and promotion(s). Salary is commensurate with qualifications. Appointment intended to begin August 15, 2026.

Essential Functions

  • Teach six undergraduate courses per year with a range of nine to thirteen credit hours per semester. Courses may include, but not be limited to, French language, literature, culture and/or linguistics courses from the introductory to the advanced undergraduate levels.
  • Demonstrate commitment to excellence in teaching by utilizing innovative technologies and evidence-based teaching methods, including Distance Learning and task-based learning
  • Coordinate basic French language classes and train and coordinate graduate assistants in language instruction
  • Curriculum and program development, which may include coordination of multi-section courses, leading study abroad, and directing certificates
  • Service to the department and university, including academic advising and committee service, and contributions to outreach and recruiting on campus and in local high schools

Minimum Requirements

Prior to the effective date of appointment, all of the following are required:

Required Education

PhD in French or related field

Required Experience

Two academic years of experience teaching French language or literature, culture, or linguistics courses at the collegiate level.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
