Assistant Professor English - Children's and Young Adult Literature
Job Summary
Reporting to the department chair, the Assistant Professor of English in Children's and Young Adult Literature and Media Studies requires teaching three courses per term (six courses per year), ongoing scholarly productivity, as well as service responsibilities. Areas of focus may include Children's Literature, Young Adult Literature, and/or Media Studies, including social media, digital media, and content creation and/or film and television studies. The ideal candidate will support undergraduate and graduate programs, direct and supervise theses, and help grow the graduate program'40% of which currently focuses on YA literature. This position is interdisciplinary and encourages engagement with students in the College of Education and the Multimedia and Film Production program in the Department of Communication Arts, while teaching high-demand film and media classes. The position is an academic (10 month) tenure-track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Required Qualifications
- Earned Ph.D. in English or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in English by August 1, 2026.
- Scholarly expertise in Children's Literature, Young Adult Literature, Media Studies, Film or Television Studies, or related areas.
- Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
- Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
- Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research/creative activities as appropriate to the discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
- Credentials to teach and supervise graduate theses in Children's and YA Literature and Film, Television, and/or Media Studies.
- Experience with scholarship in social media, digital media, film, television, and/or content creation.
- Record of innovative and excellent teaching.
- Demonstrated interest in and potential for interdisciplinary collaboration, including developing externally funded projects.
Proposed Salary
Commensurate with experience. This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
