IDEAS RESEARCH INSTITUTE is a research and development center operating in the field of artificial intelligence and digital economy. Its mission is to support the development of these technologies in Poland by creating a platform connecting the academic and business communities.
IDEAS RESEARCH INSTITUTE was established by the Ministry of Digital Affairs and the Ministry of National Defense. Our goal is to build the largest space in Poland conducive to conducting innovative research, as well as to educate a new generation of scientists focused on the practical application of developed algorithms and their subsequent commercialization in industry, finance, medicine, and other sectors of the economy. The highest level of expertise of the implemented projects guarantees the opportunity to collaborate with scientists of global standing.
The Director of the IDEAS Research Institute, prof. dr hab. Piotr Sankowski, announces a competition for an academic position: Assistant Professor (F/M) in the Digital Twin Team.
Scope of tasks for the position covered by the competition
- Conducting scientific research in the field of environmental remote sensing and geoinformatics.
- Publishing research results at recognized international conferences (e.g., from the CORE A/A* list) and in JCR-indexed scientific journals.
- Active participation in the implementation of research and development projects.
- Initiating and participating in the preparation of research grant applications (national and international).
- Implementing scientific research or development work results into practice.
- Disseminating scientific achievements and active participation in the scientific life of the international community.
- Improving one's scientific and professional qualifications.
- Scientific supervision and substantive support for younger members of the research team.

Required qualifications
Candidates who meet the following requirements may enter the competition:
- Hold at least a doctoral degree in the discipline of forestry sciences.
- Documented scientific achievements (including publications since 2020) in the area of environmental remote sensing, geoinformatics, Earth sciences, or forestry sciences at recognized international scientific conferences or in JCR-indexed journals.
- Practical knowledge of advanced statistical analysis and machine learning algorithms applied to environmental spatial data.
- Practical knowledge of R and/or Python, including packages such as tidyverse, caret, sf, terra, lidR, lasR, rstac, pandas, numpy, geopandas, rasterio.
- Knowledge of spatial databases (PostGIS) and experience in conducting computations in a supercomputing environment (e.g., HPC / PLGrid) or cloud environment (e.g., AWS).
- Practical knowledge of GIS software (QGIS, ArcMap) and tools for 3D data and point cloud analysis (CloudCompare, Meshlab, Terrasolid package).
- Practical experience in planning and acquiring field data in natural environment areas, including operating terrestrial laser scanners (TLS) and GNSS receivers.
- Experience in working and completing tasks in research or research and development projects.
- Experience in preparing grant applications or managing projects (e.g., NCN PRELUDIUM, OPUS, SONATA).
- Knowledge of English at a minimum B2 level (enabling fluent writing of publications and presenting results).
- Fluent knowledge of Polish.

Selection process
Method of conducting the contest procedure
The Director of the Institute appoints a Selection Committee to conduct the contest. The Selection Committee makes a formal assessment of applications based on documents submitted by candidates. In justified cases, the Committee may call the candidate to supplement formal deficiencies within a specified period. Applications that do not meet formal requirements after the ineffective expiration of the deadline for their completion are not subject to further evaluation. Candidates whose applications receive a positive formal assessment are subject to a substantive evaluation, which may take the form of an interview combined with a presentation of scientific achievements. The interview may take place stationary or using electronic means of communication. Candidates will be informed of the date and method of the interview in advance. The Selection Committee prepares a protocol from the contest procedure and submits it to the Director of the Institute. The Director makes the contest results available on the Institute's website.
The contest is announced on September 7, 2026, with the resolution and announcement of results by October 7, 2026. The selection of a candidate in the contest procedure does not constitute an obligation of the Institute to establish an employment relationship. The decision regarding employment is made by the Director of the Institute.
