Job Description

Basic Function:
Thank you for your interest in the tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Geography Program at Moreno Valley College (MVC). The successful candidate will have primary teaching responsibilities in Physical Geography lecture and laboratory courses. Approximately 20% of the teaching assignment may also include human or regional geography and geospatial courses. We are particularly interested in candidates who have a demonstrated interest and ability to teach and develop GIS and GIScience courses. The Geography Program at MVC offers an Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT), designed to help community college students matriculate to 4-year university programs in Geography. The successful candidate will have opportunities to promote the Geography ADT program and recruit Geography majors. MVC and the Geography Program have been growing in enrollment, and opportunities exist to develop new courses, and to offer honors versions of existing courses in collaboration with the MVC Honors Program. Participation in departmental and college service is expected, including contributing to course and program-level assessments.

Opportunities also exist to collaborate with faculty at The Ben Clark Public Safety Training Center (BCTC) located in Riverside, CA as they continue to expand their Emergency Management and Fire Technology degree programs. The BCTC is one of the largest public safety education centers in Southern California and provides an exciting opportunity to collaborate on developing geospatial science and hazards courses.

Moreno Valley College is one of three campuses comprising the Riverside Community College District (RCCD) and proudly serves over 19,000 students annually by offering over 65 programs. MVC is committed to educating and empowering individuals by providing access to educational opportunities. In 2025, WalletHub's Best and Worst Community Colleges ranked MVC 11th best in the nation, second in Southern California, and first in the Inland Empire. This is the second consecutive year in a row MVC has been recognized in the ranking. With respect to faculty salary and wages, RCCD ranked 14th out of the 72 California Community College districts for incoming faculty with a Master's degree (Step 1), and 6th for incoming faculty with a Master's degree and 5+ years' experience (Step 6) according to the 2025 Full-time Faculty Salary Comparisons Report for California Community Colleges. MVC's campus is located in Moreno Valley, CA, an affordable Southern California suburb in the heart of the Inland Empire and the second largest city by population in Riverside County, CA.
